MasterWorks of New Mexico
Celebrates Sixteen Years The MasterWorks of New Mexico Spring Art Show is now in its sixteenth year of exhibition! It began with a unique vision, that of combining the talents and experiences of existing fine arts organizations, each representing artists throughout New Mexico, to sponsor a show of New Mexico's finest art. The charter board of representatives consisted of the Pastel Society of New Mexico, the New Mexico Watercolor Society, and Miniature Arts Bardean. During the second year a fourth arts society Rio Grande Art Association was added. It is for oils, acrylics, and mixed media not framed under glass. The societies are always open for new membership but this is not a requirement for entry in MasterWorks. The Spring Show is in fact four separately juried shows, which are hung together after judging and the awarding of ribbons and prizes.

Judge Howard Wexler Born in New York and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Howard Wexler attended the Corcoran Art School and the Abbott Academy of Art, received his BA from Pratt Institute in New York, and attended the Academie Andre Lhote, Paris, all between the years 1950-1961. He studied the Maroger method of oil painting while in Paris, taught drawing and painting to the American colony in Paris and Normandy, and later in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1968 he moved to Albuquerque, where he and colleague Siegfried Hahn gave classes in their art academy. Wexler has given many workshops throughout the US and Morocco. He is in collections and exhibitions throughout France, England, Germany and the US.
Juror Robert Highsmith Las Cruces artist Robert Highsmith received his training from NM State University and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, FL. He has had many one-man and group shows throughout the country and is the recipient of over a hundred awards for watercolor and other media painting, including Best of Show, Western Federation 2011. His works are in numerous collections in the US and abroad, and has been featured in American Art, Watercolor Magic, Watercolor Artist, New Mexico, Southwest Art, Art Journey America: Landscapes, others. Highsmith was most recently honored with the NM Governor's Award of Excellence in Art. He is currently a Signature Member of the American and the New Mexico Watercolor Societies, with Memberships in the Nat'l and San Diego Watercolor Societies.
Juror Roberta Remy Born in Brooklyn, New York; attending Parson's School of Design, School of Visual Arts and the Art Student's League of NY; and influenced by the Old Masters and the American Impressionists; Roberta Remy has work in corporate and private collections throughout the US, Brazil and Europe. She has studied in NY with master painters Frank Mason, George Passantino, David Leffel, Sherri McGraw, and Robert Beverly Hale, has exhibited at the Abq. Museum of Fine Arts, and is featured in International Artist's new book, "How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways to Paint Still Life and Florals". In addition to her award winning work in oils and other media, Ms Remy was a NY based free lance illustrator and worked for major corporations with product design and licensing, and illustrated children's books.
Juror Diana Stetson Award-winning New Mexican artist Diana Stetson works at Hand Graphics in Santa Fe on monotypes, and in her studio in Alameda, New Mexico on mixed media paintings. Childhood exploration in the Hudson River Valley, Reed College in Oregon, Roehampton Institute in London, and more than a year of study in Asia inform her work, which incorporates lyrical images from the natural world as she strives to express the deep connection between humans and the world around them. Stetson is currently engaged in exploring ways to impact environmental issues as a visual storyteller. She has received over 20 grants and awards for her work, including a grant from the French Ministry of Culture and the prestigious Bravo Award in Albuquerque. Her work resides in fine collections around the world.

Judge and Jurors for 2014 MasterWorks of New Mexico Miniature Size Fine Art
Judge Melinda Beavers Melinda Beavers is a Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) Signature Member and Merit Award recipient. Her fine art illustrations have taken top honors at many prominent shows and juried competitions, including Masterworks of New Mexico and the CPSA Annual International Exhibitions, as well as being featured in books, print publications, and product design. She takes an influence from her background in graphic design, where she has developed brand identities, print collateral campaigns, and multi-media promotions. In 2001, Melinda co-founded internationally recognized Tangerine Café Design Group, with whom she enjoys making use of her talents on a commercial level.
Juror Pat Cohen Patricia Cohen has made her home in and around Albuquerque for most of her life. She has created works in various media including oil, acrylic, watercolor, fiber, found object mixed media, and most recently ceramic sculpture. Patricia holds a BFA degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and a Masters Degree in Art Education from UNM. She taught art in middle and high school for APS and summer classes at Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. Her work may be seen in Visual Journeys: Art of the Twenty First Century and 500 Raku. She is a member of the NM Potters and Clay Artists, and the Society of Layerists in Multi-Media.
Juror Cay Garcia Cay has been cutting paper images for over 30 years, beginning in middle school with birthday and Christmas cards for family members. Over the years these special occasion cards developed in complexity becoming gifts themselves. During college she began making wall art after discovering artist text papers. Since then the paper images have taken on deeper depth and intricacy. Using various self-taught techniques of layering, stacking, and piecing Cay's works may contain over 1000 individually cut parts. In addition to wall art she has explored the possibility of wearable art through mounting extremely small paper images in silver and glass to create pins, allowing people to carry their landscapes and gardens with them.
Juror Sarah Siltala Sarah Siltala, a Santa Fe native, was born into a family of professional artists. She was raised in a very creative environment surrounded by art, music, and the cultural richness and beauty of New Mexico. Spending time in nature was also a large part of her upbringing. The splendor and brilliant light of northern New Mexico created impressions that continue to affect her art work today. Whether a still life or landscape, Sarah's paintings are about light and have an Old World elegance, yet the colors and compositions are quite contemporary. Her award winning paintings can be found in art collections around the world.
