PROFIBUS-DP as example

MASTERDRIVES Motion Controldrives can be quickly and simplyconnected to a PROFIBUS-DP bus –the most successful fieldbus stand-ard world-wide with data transferrates of 12 Mbit/s: Thanks to peer-to-peer communication and clock-cycle synchronism, communica-tion between peers functions per-fectly using the PROFIBUS commu-nication board. This allowsfunctions such as positioning andangular synchronism to be simplyimplemented.

It is also extremely simply to inte-grate MASTERDRIVES Motion Con-trol into the SIMATIC automationenvironment using Drive ES (moreinformation about this tool is pro-vided on the next page).

Serial interfaces with the USSprotocol

MASTERDRIVES has, as standard, aserial interface (USS interface). Youcan use this as an RS 232 port forpoint-to-point coupling or as anRS 485 port for bus operation. This,for example, can be used to con-nect DriveMonitor – the commis-sioning and diagnostics tool.

Comprehensive BICO library forcontrol and logic functions

The control structure of MASTER-DRIVES Motion Control is pre-assigned in the factory and can beselected using parameters. Fur-thermore, the signals can be in-jected and picked-off at specifiedpoints. This means that you caninterrupt connections establishedin the software and establish newconnections. BICO technologymakes this all possible. This is usedto freely connect control blocks –just the same as with programma-ble logic controllers. This meansthat you no longer have to pro-gram the system – it only has tobe parameterized. Not only this,MASTERDRIVES Motion Controldrive units have the same func-tionality as a basic SIMATIC PLC.

The blocks are simply intercon-nected using binectors and con-nectors. Binectors connect binarysignals, while connectors connect16-bit or 32-bit data. You have theadvantage that you can alwaysuse the optimum functional scope.Simply select a structure from thepermanently installed standardsand commissioning has been com-pleted and the drive is ready to bepowered up.
