Your Masterclass in Nature Photography is led by world-renowned and award-winning nature photographer, Jürgen Freund. Jürgen has won numerous international awards including:

This unforgettable experience will provide you with advanced skills in nature photography. You will:

- Develop the specialised skills necessary for photographic work in natural environments

- Uncover the remarkable, environmental features of Australia’s tropical far north, gaining an in-depth appreciation for it’s vibrant and breathtaking flora and fauna

- Gain an understanding of the legal, ethical, Indigenous and environmental issues associated with nature photography, preparing you for your future work in this field.

Location − James Cook University (JCU), Cairns Campus and Lake Eacham, Atherton Tablelands. Lake Eacham is an extinct volcanic crater lake, filled with crystal clear water, surrounded by 1200 acres of lush tropical highland rainforest.

Program − 29 June - 6 July 2012While in Cairns, breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided on campus, and dinner will be provided at a local restaurant. On the Atherton Tablelands, all meals will be provided, for the duration of the field trip.

• Thursday 28 June: Bus transfer from Cairns Airport to accommodation. Dinner provided at local restaurant.

• Friday 29 June: 8.00am shuttle to JCU campus for breakfast, course briefing and preparation and private lecture series by Jürgen Freund.

• Saturday 30 June: 7.30am check-out from accommodation. 8.00am shuttle to JCU campus for breakfast. 9.00am departure to Tablelands. Private dinner, during which Jürgen Freund will present and discuss his latest work.

• Sunday 1 July: Participation in ‘dawn shoot’ with Jürgen at Lake Eacham National Park, watching the master in action.

• Monday 2 July: 9.00am-6.00pm ‘location shoot’ with Jürgen around the crater lake and surrounding rainforest.

• Tuesday 3 July: 9.00am-6.00pm ‘location shoot’ with Jürgen including rainforest walks, waterfalls and platypus sighting.

• Wednesday 4 July: 9.00am-1.00pm ‘location shoot’ with Jürgen in rainforest. 2.00pm transfer back to Cairns accommodation.

• Thursday 5 July: 8.00am shuttle to JCU campus. 9.00am-12.00pm digital photography session with Jürgen. 1.00pm-5.00pm digital media lab access and mentoring by Jürgen. Then return shuttle to accommodation.

• Friday 6 July: 8.00am shuttle to JCU campus. 9.00am participant explication seminars with Jurgen (approximately four hours in length). Bus transfer from JCU campus to Cairns Airport.

• All tuition on both the JCU Cairns campus and in the field

• Access to all necessary photographic equipment required for completing the program, including access to base level SLR digital cameras as well as Canon 20D, 7D and 5D where appropriate

• Access to iMac computers and Photoshop CS5 for post-field trip editing

• Transport to the field trip site and return to JCU Cairns campus

• Accommodation for nine nights

• Meals while on the field trip

• A certificate of completion.

Cost of total package: A$3200.00 incl. GST

Does not include: Alcohol at dinner or other meals Personal expenses, e.g. laundry, phone calls from hotel, mini bar consumption etc. Transportation to and from Cairns, Queensland.

It is a requirement that participants have basic photographic experience using a digital SLR camera.

Cancellation policy and further information

Following registration, should you find you are unable to attend this event and we have received a written notification of your cancellation no later than Friday 16 June, a refund of the fee, less an administration charge of 5%, will be made.
