Master’s Degree Overview

Master’s programmes at KTH are organised into nine main fields of study. Within those fields, prospective students may choose from more than sixty degree programmes.

Master’s programmes are taught in English and typically last two years: one and a half years of lecture and course work, and six months of work on a degree project.

KTH emphasises applied knowledge, and Master’s students will have the opportunity to interact with industry leaders in their chosen fields throughout the course of their studies. KTH also emphasises an interdisciplinary approach to education, and students are encouraged to pursue work that incorporates subjects and ideas from other fields of study.

Joint Master’s programmesKTH believes strongly in international cooperation, and offers around 20 Master’s Degree programmes given in collaboration with other prominent technical universities. Students enrolled in these programmes spend one year at KTH and another year at the partner university, allowing students to earn a distinguished joint or double degree.

Most of these collaborations are made possible by EU and Nordic funding initiatives. KTH is a major partner in the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), and offers several joint degree programmes tailored for entrepreneurial students. As a member of Nordic Five Tech, KTH offers Joint Nordic Master’s Degree programmes with several other leading Nordic technical institutions, and as member of the prestigious EU initiative Erasmus +, KTH offers Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree programmes with some of the finest universities in Europe.

KTH & Stockholm – An Inside View

My ambition is to help alleviate the world’s energy problems, and KTH’s energy- and environment-focused programmes fit me like a glove!

Before coming to Sweden I studied in Italy and Germany; after that, I was looking for a new country where I could continue my studies. Sweden’s universities stood out among other countries and Europe – and the world – because of their excellence, and KTH has made many contributions to society. Stockholm seemed like the right choice for me from the beginning!

Mohamed AtwaNanotechnology

Stockholm is a beautiful city to live in. There’s so much to see, and lots of museums, concerts, and cafes. Sweden in general offers good quality of life and people here are encouraged to follow their dreams.

KTH Master’s Students and Alumni Discuss Life at Sweden’s Largest Technical University

Page 16: Master’s Studies 2016 · KTH is Sweden’s largest and most respected technical university, and emphasises practical, real-world solutions to global challenges. As part of this

Stockholm is a beautiful city filled with beautiful people. It’s big enough to feel like a real city but doesn’t have the uncomfortable extremes I’ve experienced in London or New York. It’s surrounded by nature, so it’s easy to get a change of pace for the weekend. The people are courteous and polite, too. It’s a great place to live.

If you have financial concerns about studying in Sweden: Yes, Stockholm can be a bit expen-sive, but no, it’s not going to be big problem. If you’re thinking about studying at KTH, I say get out of your comfort zone and do it. You’ll be in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, meeting with new people, doing exciting things, and maybe figuring out who you are in the process.

KTH is known mostly as an engineering school but it has excellent natural sciences programmes, too. If you’re interested in medical or human genetics and looking for a Master’s programme, the Medical Biotech-nology programme might be a wise choice.

Whenever I’m asked about my academic background, I’m proud to say I studied at KTH. Studying at KTH not only advanced my academic and professional goals but also gave me new ways of looking at life, new insights into my culture, and a better understanding of myself. The friends I made at KTH will be my friends for life.

The best thing about being a former KTH student is recognition. KTH is a prestigious, worldwide well-known university, and our KTH education constantly helps us former students make a global impact with local solutions.

KTH is recognised as one of the top engineering schools in Europe. To be a KTH alumnus is an honour, and you can see that in the way people respect and value you. Personally, KTH was a life-changing experience for me, in a really good way. If I am doing well today in my line of work, it is mainly because of the work ethic and learning culture I experienced at KTH.
