Master of Science in
Photonics Engineering
Ghent University (UGent, Belgium) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB, Belgium) jointly offer an English-taught, two year (120 ECTS) master of science program in the field of photonics.
The program provides an in-depth education in photonics, with focus on both the fundamental science and the engineering of light-based phe-nomena and systems.
Photonics graduates move into PhD positions in top level research groups all around the world or into R&D positions in industry.
The program:
teaches all the core photonics courses
offers advanced photonics courses
broadens knowledge and skills in secondary engineering domain (ICT, biosciences, physics and chemistry of materials, etc.)
has a strengthened focus on:
Photonic skills (measurement, engineering and research skills)
Employability (internship, entrepreneurship, photonics in industry)
includes a master thesis project in a research lab

ALUMNI TESTIMONIALS
“The UGent-VUB MSc. in Photonics Engineering offers the students the combi-nation of both theory and applications in optics and photonics.”
Shanti Toenger, CNRS - University of Franche-Comté PhD-student (France)
“The MSc. in Photonics Engineering has an excellent combination of courses and laboratory work which covers all the basic aspects of photonics and all im-portant subfields.”
Abdul Shakoor, St Andrews University PhD-student (UK)
“The MSc. in Photonics Engineering offers great insights in the state-of-the-art technologies in this exciting field. A good understanding can help you build a career in many domains, such as in the extensive world of telecommunication."
Sven Van Erps, I&C Coordinator Ericsson (Belgium)
“Surprisingly for me, the researchers, who are writing the science right now, were my professors. This is surely one of the best options for any photonics as-pirant...”
Alvaro Casas Bedoya, Sydney University PhD-student (Australia)
