Learning Outcomes Emergency and Disaster Management specialization courses explore topics ranging from legal and regulatory aspects, and organizational leadership to the impact of terrorism on homeland security and much more.

We currently offer two program options:

• Traditional program: The MS in Emergency and Disaster Management is a two-year program of study. You can take one online class per term. Full-time status is earned for three credit hours per eight-week term or six credit hours per 15-week semester.

• Accelerated program: Choose this option and you can complete your MS in Emergency and Disaster Management in less than two years. You must receive special permission each term or semester to take more courses than permitted in the traditional program, and accelerated students must send a letter to the public safety professionals to receive approval.

We also offer a concentration in fire science administration, which is a specialization program directed toward those who are currently working in the field. In many jurisdictions (including the military), high-ranking public safety officials, to include fire service officers, are often encouraged—and may be required—to obtain a master’s degree.
