Pastor’s Corner Dear Parishioners,
We welcome all of our visitors for our San Lorenzo Ruiz
celebration! It’s a great day as we remember this saint and his
companions who were tortured and martyred for their Catholic
faith. San Lorenzo (Saint Lawrence) is the first canonized Filipino
martyr and serves as an inspiration to many.
Yesterday we celebrated the 80th anniversary of our Holy Family High
School. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop José Gomez, and it was followed
by a special reception at the Embassy Suites Hotel. Our high school was founded by
the BVM sisters 80 years ago to serve high school girls in Glendale and the
neighboring communities, and we are proud of its many accomplishments! We
currently have a new head of school, Dr. Joe Reiken, and Asst. Head of School
Robert Bringas and Asst. Head of School Kimberly (Milkovich) Jones along with a
great crop of young girls eager to learn and make a difference in the world!
Tomorrow we priests meet for our Annual Presbyteral Day at the cathedral
with the archbishop. Thus, there will be no 5:30 PM Mass tomorrow, Monday,
September 25th. Please note!!
This Saturday, Dei Gratia ministry is hosting a spirit-filled retreat in Spanish
at the Grade School Auditorium. See page 11 of the bulletin for details. If you are
Spanish speaking, this is a great opportunity at Holy Family. Take advantage of it!!
The sign up deadline is rapidly approaching for THE EDGE for middle
schoolers (x381), ONEIGHT Confirmation for high school teens (x381), and RCIA for
adults interested in exploring our Catholic faith tradition and adults interested in
pursuing the sacraments of First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation (x382).
Our men’s retreat is taking place this weekend! Let us pray for our
gentlemen as they go deeper in their spirituality.
Our parish country fair is coming up October 28-29th. This is expanding to
a two-day event and will take place at both the grade school and high school
properties. We are encouraging everyone in the local community to participate in our
big event. Details are forthcoming.
We are still short on our Together in Mission goal to support needy parishes
and schools in the archdiocese. A number of those who have pledged have failed to
make their commitments. Are you perhaps one of them? If not, please honor your
commitment to the needy parishes and schools as soon as possible.
Just a friendly reminder: the Elks club is open for parish parking for Sunday
morning Masses. When the gates are open, please feel free to utilize this lot. We
appreciate the generosity of the Elks club. It is located just west of the church
between Colorado and Elk Avenues.
