Something about Jesus brought these lepers to him. They heard of him and hoped for a cure. And something about them brought healing. We notice he healed without a word. Jesus healed often by being who he was at that moment. He embraced the people whom nobody wanted. He never asked why these people were suffering from leprosy or how and when they got sick. He just saw a sick person in front of him and knew they needed healing. He healed with compassion.

Compassion, a challenge to all of us in help-ing people. Medical services today can be so impersonal. Someone asked ‘when will I have my procedure?’ He was told, ‘Oh, you’re number five on the list!’ His non-condemnatory way of healing was a big quality in Jesus. No lectures on life-style. Pope Francis thinks of the church first of all as a sort of ‘field hospital’. A place of being with people in need of care, and healing. For these people Jesus’ compassion was touched by their faith or their misery.

Same with ourselves. We can do a lot for each other just by being who we are. One of the greatest needs today is to be heard. Of-ten we need to be heard – advice is given 2 a penny, or opinions when all I want is some-one to say – what do you mean by that? How can I help? Even when someone drives you mad, maybe then they need to be heard. Being heard with compassion can heal worries and doubts or give relief to guilt and fear.

In our culture, there is a huge need for the personal. Friendships cannot exist only on e-mails, social media, or texts. We need to keep the personal alive, to keep compassion active and to be a community of listeners before we are speakers. To look others in the eye with love and care before asking anything of them. To bring mercy, sometimes without words, with a listening ear to the cares of all.

Algo sobre Jesús le trajo a estos leprosos. Se enteraron de él y espe-raban una cura. Y algo en ellos trajo sanación. Notamos que fueron sanados sin decir una palabra. Jesús sanó a menudo por ser quien era en ese momento. Abrazó a las personas que nadie quería. Nunca preguntó por qué estas personas sufrían de lepra o cómo y cuándo se

enfermaron. Acaba de ver a una persona en-ferma frente a él y sabía que necesitaban sana-ción. Sanaba con compasión. La compasión, un desafío para todos nosotros en ayudar a las personas. Los servicios médi-cos de hoy pueden ser tan impersonales. Al-guien preguntó "¿cuándo me someteré a mi procedimiento?". Le dijeron: "¡Oh, eres el número cinco en la lista!". Su forma de sana-ción no condenatoria fue una gran cualidad en Jesús. No hay conferencias sobre el estilo de vida. El Papa Francisco piensa en la iglesia, en primer lugar, como una especie de "hospital de campaña". Un lugar para estar con personas que necesitan atención y cura-ción. Para estas personas, la compasión de Jesús fue tocada por su fe o su miseria. Lo mismo con nosotros mismos. Podemos hacer mucho el uno por el otro simplemente siendo quienes somos. Una de las mayores necesidades de hoy es ser escuchado. A menu-do necesitamos que nos escuchen: se dan con-sejos por un centavo u opiniones cuando todo

lo que quiero es que alguien diga: ¿qué quieres decir con eso? ¿Cómo puedo ayudar? Incluso cuando alguien te vuelve loco, tal vez entonces necesitan ser escuchados. Ser escuchado con compasión puede sanar preocupaciones y dudas o aliviar la culpa y el miedo. En nuestra cultura, existe una gran necesidad de lo personal. Las amistades no pueden existir solo en correos electrónicos, redes socia-les o mensajes de texto. Necesitamos mantener vivo lo personal, mantener activa la compasión y ser una comunidad de oyentes antes de ser oradores. Mirar de los ojos a los ojos con amor y cuidado an-tes de preguntarles nada. Para traer misericordia, a veces sin pala-bras, con un oído atento a las preocupaciones de todos.

Dios te invita a tener un encuentro personal con Él. Jesús dice:

“Vengan a mí todos los que están fatigados y agobiados, y yo les daré alivio.”

El Grupo de Oración es un lugar para compartir y dar alabanza a las

maravillas que Dios obra en cada uno. Dando así motivo espiritual, que

todos los hermanos y hermanas tienen la oportunidad de manifestar con el

ejemplo de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. El grupo de oración “Lluvia de Esperanza” los es-peran todos los Miércoles a las 7:00 pm en el salón parroquial para una noche de oración,

alabanza, y proclamación de la palabra.

Nuestro programa de tutoría, dirigido por George Shamu, regresa esta semana.

Habrá tutoría los jueves 7:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m. y sábados 1:00 p.m. a 3:00 p.m. en el

salón 4. El programa es gratis y es para estudiantes del kínder al bachillerato.

The Tutoring group meets on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 1:00

p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Room 4. The program is free and it is designed for

students Kinder to High School. All are welcome.

St. Agatha’s is offering Adult Confirmation

Preparation Course. This course is open to:

• anyone who is 18 years or older,

• baptized in the Catholic Church, and

• has already received their First Communion

Thank You to the 7am,12:15pm and 6pm Eucharistic Ministry for the donation of all the sand-wiches. Our guests started eating the sandwich as soon as they were given the bag.

We are humbly grateful to those who have taken raffle books to sell, purchased raffle tickets from us. This raffle and the Bou-tique are our major fundraisers that supports the Christmas Din-ner and weekly meal program. Your sacrifice and support are a blessing for us and especially for our guest who know that once a week they can come to the cor-ner of Mansfield and Adams to be welcomed with smiles, digni-ty, acceptance, respect, support and tons of love. The Gospel reading last Sunday referred to "the poor". We in the S.H.A.R.E. ministry feel we all are lacking in something and that makes us poor in something. Some folks wear their circum-stances for all to see and are given the label of "the poor."

Please make the raffle ticket returns to Yolanda Morrow, Margie Nickleberry, or Gloria Walker. Please do not return the raffle tickets to the Pastoral Staff or the Pastoral Center Office.

NEED A HUG? S.H.A.R.E. Ministry will be giving FREE HUGS on Sunday, October 20, before and after the morning masses. Yolanda and Margie will be wearing red shirts and will be behind the church. We invite the church community to join us in wearing red and help us SHARE in the distribution of FREE HUGS.

We have a lot going on during our journey to the Free Christ-mas Dinner for those in need in the community. Please stop by the table behind the church to see how you can help. Sure you

have something to support us with, PRAYERS, HUGS ALL THESE ARE FREE AND SO ENCOURAGING.

Father God, help us to use the gifts and blessings that you give us in support of someone we meet today during our journey. Help us when we see someone that makes us uncomfortable because of how they appear or speak. Give us the courage to pray for that person and not judge them. Help us to think of what if that were me or my fam-ily member or someone I loved. Only with you dear God can we be the blessing you want us to be. Amen. And please continue to lift up Mama Rhodes, John and Catherine in prayer. Our faith teaches us that with God all things are possible. Amen

Ayúdanos a pen-sar qué pasaría si ese fuera yo, mi familiar o alguien a quien amaba. Solo contigo, querido Dios, podemos ser la bendición que quieres que seamos. Amén.
