STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION You might say our message from today’s readings has everything to do with prayer. Could Jesus put it more clearly than He does at the beginning of the Gospel from Luke? “Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.”

We may recall that St. Paul told us we needed to “pray constantly.” Prayer should be at the very core of our faith lives, and it is the beginning point of living lives of stewardship. Jesus probably did not mean that we should always be on our knees with our eyes closed in prayer, but He did expect us to always be in what one might call the “spirit of prayer.” Paul refers to this in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 when he says, “Pray without ceasing.”

To be sure, prayer is not easy. We may, as the Lord says, sometimes “lose heart” in prayer, because it is difficult for us to perceive the answer or the response to our prayers. (The term “lose heart” is another translation of what was translated in the Gospel as “becoming weary.”) Too often we use prayer as a last resort instead of a first resource.

A healthy, consistent, and regular prayer life is in many ways the secret to a successful faith life. St. John Chry-sostom said, “Prayer is the place of refuge for every worry, a foundation for cheerfulness, a source of constant happiness, and a protection against sadness.”

St. James—St. Leo Catholic Community is under the pastoral care of the Eudist Fathers, or Congregation of Jesus and Mary. We owe our name to Saint John Eudes who founded the Congregation in France in 1643. The Eudists currently operate in 15 countries, most of which are in the developing world. Evangelization, mainly with the poor and the youth, is our primary purpose, as well as formation to ministry in the

training of diocesan priests and lay ministers. Our motto is “To Serve Christ and His Church.” For more information visit: http://www.eudistes.org/english.htm

JOIN US AFTER MASS TODAY FOR A BRIEF CAPITAL CAMPAIGN RECEPTION! LEARN ABOUT THE EXCITING PLANS FOR OUR PARISH.

ALL ARE WELCOME!

This weekend we will be hosting a brief capital campaign reception after every Mass. If you were not able to attend a capital campaign reception in the past few weeks, please take this opportunity to join us for a coffee, donuts and a brief presentation where you will learn important information on the future of your parish.

On Monday, October 17th, a campaign packet will be mailed to all households who have not already received one. By attending a brief reception and picking up your packet in the parish hall you will be helping the parish save money on postage. In addition, picking up your packet will save many hours of volunteer help. Thank you!

THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY PLEDGED! Pledges are continuing to come in, and many families have already made significant sacrifices for the future of our parish. Their dedication, support and generosity is greatly appreciated as they inspire our parish community and set the pace for our future.

Your participation will determine the success of this campaign. We need your support to complete the renovations to the Church and campus. Please ask God what your role is in this capital campaign. We remind parishioners who have attended a reception to return their pledge cards to the parish as soon as possible. Pledge cards can be dropped in the collection basket, placed in the mail or brought by the Parish Office.

Remember, not everyone can make the same size gift, but everyone can make th e same size sacrifice!

Have questions? Feel free to call the Campaign Office if you have any questions. We look forward to sharing

information with all of you about the Building For The Next Century Capital Campaign. Our Campaign Director,
