And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should
raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may
have eternal life, and I shall raise him up on the last day." - Jn 6:39-40

Respect Life
As election day approaches, speaking out about politics and abor-
tion is a stumbling block for may people. Our bishops have made it
clear, particularly in their 1998 document Living the Gospel of Life,
that to be silent on these matters is to be silent about the Gospel.
Our religion is not meant to turn us in on ourselves, as a matter
only for attention within the walls of our Churches or the privacy of
our home. Our religion is meant to be a leaven that transforms
society, a light set on a hilltop, a challenge to cultures and govern-
ments. So we need courage. We can say about courage what one
saint has said about humility. When you feel you don’t have it, do
what you would do if you did have it!

As you know, November is the month in which the
Church prays in a special way for all those who
have gone home to the Lord.
November 2 is marked in the church calendar as
the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls). On
Wednesday, November 2, at St. Charles Church at 7pm we would
like to remember those whose funeral liturgies were celebrated at
St. Charles-St. Ann during the past year. We invite you and your
family to attend this special Mass where we will chant the names
of the deceased and light a candle in their memory. Refreshments
will be served at the end of the evening.
Faith Formation For the Whole Family On Sunday evening, October 23rd, St. Charles was !illed with stu-
dents and their families for a Teaching Liturgy with Fr. Brian. All classes grades 8 – 12 were in attendance with their fami-
lies. Each class prepared research on a speci!ic part of the Mass. The 8th grade explained the vestments as Fr. Brian vest-
ed. The 9th and 10th grades prepared an explanation of the Sanctuary, Altar, Genu!lection & Blessings and the 2 major Rites of
the Mass: Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist. Our Senior Peer Ministers, Alyssa Cregan and Russell Graziano
were the narrators. They narrated while Fr. Brian celebrated the Mass, explaining all the traditions and prayers associated
with each Rite in the Liturgy. Our Con!irmation 1 candidates signed the Book of Commitment and brought up their Letters
of Commitment signed by them and their parents at the Offertory. It was the of!icial beginning of their preparation to receive
the Sacrament of Con!irmation in the Spring of 2018. A huge thanks to Fr. Brian for celebrating yet another Liturgy on this
weekend. He is a true teacher at heart and his homily was not only inspiring but his “Catholic Quiz” questions held every-
one’s attention. He spoke on the importance of attending Mass and what it means to be in the “state of grace”. Thanks also to
Keith Condon for offering his musical talents and to all the teachers and students who prepared for this special evening. It
was an hour of real Faith Formation for all who attended.
Please mark your calendars for our next evening of Family Faith Formation, November 6th. We
will be having the Patriotic Rosary at 6pm at St. Charles for the entire Parish and all grades 8-
12. We will pray this Rosary which includes readings of our nation’s forefathers, patriotic
hymns and each state prayed for with the 50 Hail Mary’s. We are offering this Rosary for the in-
tention of our nations election which will follow in two days. Please join us as we pray for our
country.
CYO Basketball will be hosting an informational meeting on Novem-
ber 1, at 7pm in the gym. Anyone interested in playing modified, JV
or Varsity basketball or anyone interested in coaching, please come
to the meeting.
For further information please call Jay Dillabough at 727-2284 or
call the parish office at 468-1803.
CAMPAIGN IS UNDERWAY
After months of preparation, consultation
and prayer, the Diocese of Syracuse is about
to embark on “We Are All Its Guardians”, a capital campaign in sup-
port of the restoration of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Concep-
tion. All families throughout the Diocese will be called upon to make
a sacrificial gift in the form of a pledge, payable over a 36 or 60
month period. Only with the financial commitment of all will we be
able to reach our diocesan-wide parish goal of $10 million . In two
weeks we will have Commitment Sunday for the campaign.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception belongs to all of us, and
our shared commitment is required now to ensure its longevity. All
contributions from the smallest to the largest, will be gratefully
appreciated. Your decision is a personal one and should be made in
good conscience and true Christian spirit. We realize that not eve-
ryone can make the same size gift; however, we encourage each
family to participate in a meaningful way, within their means.
Thanks to everyone who came out for our first BINGO session! It was a great time for all. Please join us for our next session- November 17th!
Have a safe and happy Halloween to our Trick or Treaters!
Our God Reigns Prayer Group
Meets Tuesdays at 4pm in the Reading
Room at St. Charles. Men and women
of St. Charles-St. Ann’s are invited to
