Mass Media Wikis- Peer Review
Ryan,
Like many of our classmates have stated, I am not sure that this was the intended topic
but I think there is certainly a need to discuss the dynamic of coach/athlete orteacher/student relationship via social media. A couple of suggestions for you: I think
there is a typo in the first paragraph in the Galileo quote teach instead of tech.
Also, I think there is a valid argument to be made regarding whether parents are puttingtoo much pressure on their children playing sports, I think the section Are Parents
Putting Too Much Pressure on Young Athletes? detracts from the flow of your wiki and
seems slightly unrelated. Finally, I enjoyed reading how different age levels. It reminded
me of a story from a national wrestling reporter who stated that every college coach hespoke with said that they once stopped recruiting a potential athlete because of something
inappropriate they said on social media. I would also agree with Stacie that you should
include some specific examples of coaches using social media in positive, and even
negative, manners. You could possibly create screenshots and black out their usernamesto protect their names.

Michael,I enjoyed reading your rough draft. The examples of the skype interview especially
caught my attention. While I am not running a big corporation, like the one you
mentioned (in fact, I am a one-man show in the wrestling apparel business) I've found
that skyping with my wholesale supplier in China is much more effective than emailingback and forth. One thing I thought you did really well was to dig up some relative
statistics, such as your stat from globalbydesign.com that "60 percent of the 105 millionTwitter users in 2010." I think this is a great example of globalization as we are awarehow popular Twitter is in the U.S. and to see that there are that many people using
Twitter around the world is astounding. Great job and I can't wait to see your finished
product.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michael,
This is a fantastic first draft. In fact, there is little that I could offer in the way ofsuggestions to improve this draft. I like that you included both positive and negative
effects of social media, especially the section on cyberbullying (love the picture). I also
liked your information regarding social circles as it reminded me of a social media tool,goodreads.com. I once used goodreads.com in the classroom and need to implement
once again since it allows users to comment on and rate books that they've read. Not only
do students get to see what their peers thought of certain books, it leads to social circlesas students see who has similar interests. One small suggestion may be to find an
example of an exceptionally well done piece of work using social media such as a fake
Facebook page on a historical figure or an educational glog.

Kayla, I think this is a very solid start. In fact, I wish this would have been availabe to asa reference for my Week 1 discussion post : ) I found the information on hot and cool
media to be interesting and didn't recall reading about that in previous studies of
McLuhan.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Todd,
One thing I thought you did exceptionally well was format the wiki into sections to makeit easier to follow. One thing I would suggest is to add some hyperlinks to other content
as well as some pictures.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Ian,
I also created a wiki on the topic of computer-mediated communication and I thought youdid a great job of explaining it and I would like to link to your explanation of CMC. I also
liked the reference to avatars and cant believe that I missed that one in my coverage of
CMC. Great job.Joe

Stacie,Wow! Your wiki is impressive. I especially liked your comment stating that todays
learners do not learn the same way people have always learned. While this seems
obvious, I have seen several occasions already in my short 5 years as an educator wherelocal taxpayers were upset with the amount of money that is spent on technology. I feel
as though sometimes those people are out of touch with what is expected of 21 st century
students relating to technology. I was probably most impressed with your in depthcoverage of the content but also really impressed with the formatting and overall
appearance of the Wiki.

Kerry,
Like Dr. Kuehn, I would also disagree with your opening statement regarding therequirements to be a good writer. As for the body of your essay, I think it is a solid
foundation. However, I think there is a lot of room to expand your ideas.

Tor,
Awesome job with your Wiki! You did an exceptional job of introducing the topic of AI

and then progressing through the history, present use, and potential for AI in the future.
One recommendation is in the lead-in, I would refrain from using the words, in this
project, I will and find a more subtle way to introduce your topic.Joe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Mitchell,
Sometimes building the framework is the hardest part of the essay and I think you have a
solid framework and now just need to fill in the details. Also, I really like the graphicsand video you chose.
Joe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Christina,
Your title is very daunting. However, you did a good job of explaining the topic through
detailed explanations and your use of hyperlinks, such as the link to a participatory
culture.Joe
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John,You took a topic that I literally knew nothing about and went to town on it! You had a
ton of excellent information and I also liked how you linked to outside information as
well. If I could offer a suggestion, it would be to add sub tittles and break your
information into smaller sections.Joe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Kim,
Honestly, the first thing that grabbed my attention was your citation style, which I believe
is Chicago style but I could be wrong. It looks more like a traditional wiki and somethingthat I am now thinking about changing on mine. Also, since I am already stealing your
ideas, I think your real evolution picture that you shared may have to be a permanent
fixture in my classroom. I think I will put that into blockposters.com to enlarge it and
hang it up. Overall, I think your wiki was nicely done and you clearly spent a lot of timeon it.
Joe
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marie,
It looks like you still have the intro and conclusion to complete but other than that I likeyour content. I actually wish I would have had access to this while writing several of the
EQ discussion posts. Nice work!

Patrick,
I think you have a great Wiki on your hands. I thought it was really easy to read and niceto look at as well. I personally liked the big, bold headings for each topic. I think you did
a nice job explaining, what I found to be a slightly confusing topic in copyrights. I also
liked how included the "going viral" section and had completely forgot about the "LeaveBritney Alone" video until you posted the screenshot.
Joe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Nicole,
Great introduction. Not only did it catch my attention but you did a great job of defining
what the wiki was going to be about along with the 6 main topics in your Wiki.
Joe-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
David,
I also agree that you are off to a solid start. I might recommend to stick with one font forall of your text, or only separate font for the headings. I found it a little distracting but the
content seems really solid so far.Joe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Jennifer,
I think you have some great content in your wiki. I would suggest to spice it up with
some examples or screenshots of examples. A screenshot of an online gaming community
or even a quote from a person heavily involved in the gaming community might help tomake it even more authentic. Great job!
Joe
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sondra,
Wow! I really like your Wiki. I think the section where it starts to really get interesting isyour topic "Simulation in Visual Culture and New Media." Your use of hyperlinks and
screenshots to go along with your examples makes it interesting to read but also
applicable to everyone because while we all may not be familiar with Call of Duty, (I had
to ask my students what COD was), who hasn't played Tetris? Great job!Joe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-James,
I think you have a solid start and a topic that will really allow you to expand on what you
have already begun. If the rest of your project is as well written as your paragraph on thehistory of the digital divide, you are going to have a fine Wiki.

Molly,
I really enjoyed reading through your Wiki. I think it is a great topic and an important
part of today's education. One suggestion, and I realize that it may be a lot of work is toinclude examples of possibilities in the section of standards as opposed to having a
separate section for technology tools at the bottom of the page. I think this would allow
the reader to make better sense of the NETS standards. Otherwise, awesome page and Ialso like how you already have planned what pages you are going to link to! Nice work.
Joe
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kelsi,
First let me say that I love your quote that "therefore, teachers need to meet twenty-first-century students on their terms and their turf, beyond the classroom walls and ina borderless realm of learning." I couldn't agree more. I also think you laid out someof the disadvantages very nicely, such as teachers who view technology as adistraction or too much work. However, maybe it is just my experience but this is atopic that really could be expanded. Overall, an awesome wiki and I can't wait to see
the finished product!Joe
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Kristan,
I think you are off to a fine start on this wiki. You really did a good job of explaining
play communication with some great examples. I would maybe recommend finishing upwith some sort of paragraph to tie it all together.
