RCIAAdultCatechistsNeededAre you interested in becoming a part helping someone on their faith journey? St. Francis of Assisi is looking for Adult Catechists who would like to be a part of our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) program. Our RCIA program for the coming church year will begin in September and run through the Lenten season of 2020. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in the following opportunities: 1. Leading a once a month discussion based on the teachings of the church (we use the text: This is Our Faith, by Michael Pennock) 2. Assist with our communications efforts (publicizing our RCIA program, weekly emails to the candidates/catechumens, updating our parish on our program, etc.) 3. Serving as a point of contact for Sponsors (soliciting volunteers to be a Sponsor, helping Sponsors with understanding the role of a Sponsor, etc.) Social Committee (helping our Candidates and Catechumens feel a part of our parish) If you feel a call to become a part of our Adult Faith Formation program, please come to a meeting on Sunday afternoon, June 30, at 3 pm, or Sunday, July 14 at 9 am in the St. Thomas classroom. The St. Francis CCW also supports our coffee and donuts fellowship after Mass once a month.

Proceeds earned as part of this monthly event go toward the needs of our church and local community. See our calendar of upcoming dates and what causes we are supporting.

For Immediate Release Washington, D.C. May 2019— Catholic women from around the na on will gather in Conven on in Atlanta from August 21-24 to celebrate 99 years of service as the Na onal Council of Catholic Women!

The 2019 theme, Caring for God’s Crea on, will showcase NCCW’s con nuing efforts to address important needs of our mes with spirituality, leadership and service.

Mother Dolores Hart, O.S.B., will be the recipient of the first Honorary Life me Membership Award of the Na onal Council of Catholic Women, given to dis nguished American Catholic women. As a young woman, she made her film debut with Elvis Presley in Paramount’s 1957 film Loving You. A er starring in several Hollywood feature films and Broadway produc ons, she stunned the world with her decision to enter cloistered religious life. Mother will relate the story of this journey at a Conven on Welcome Luncheon where she will receive her award.

Keynote speaker, The Most Reverend Peter A. Rosazza D.D., Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus, Archdiocese of Har ord will discuss women’s response to Pope Francis’s plea to save Mother Earth. Other speakers include Kim Michael Polote, Ma Holzmann, and Dan Misleh, founding Execu ve Director of Catholic Climate Covenant.

NCCW Commissions of Spirituality, Leadership and Service will present their efforts to combat human trafficking and their work on ways to respond to Pope Francis’s call to care for crea on. Many new resources addressing cri cal needs in the local parishes and communi es, such as retreats that respond to those suffering a child’s death by suicide and keeping children in the Church will be offered. The na onally acclaimed NCCW Leadership Training Development Team will share wisdom and training ps in their always engaging and lively presenta on.

Si se le pide que sea padrino, para el sacramento del Bautismo o la Con irmacion, uno de los requisitos es recibir una carta de la iglesia certi icando que usted asiste a Misa regularmente. Tenemos una parroquia grande y la unica manera de saber si viene a Misa regularmente es el uso de sus sobres. Todos los feligreses registrados tienen un numero de familia, el cual es el numero que se utiliza para su identi icacion y es el que se imprime en el exterior de los sobres. Por favor, use los sobres, no necesariamente tiene que colocar alguna cantidad en el interior, pero el numero en el exterior nos permite saber que estan asistiendo a Misa regularmente.

MEDITACION DEL EVANGELIO- ALENTAR UN ENTENDIMIENTO MAS PROFUNDO DE LAS ESCRITURAS 23 de junio de 2019 El Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo Nos dice el Evangelio: "Hagan sentar a la gente en grupos de cincuenta". Ası lo hicieron los discıpulos, y todos se sentaron. "Jesus entonces tomo los cinco panes y los dos pescados, levanto los ojos al cielo, pronuncio la bendicion, los partio y se los entrego a sus discıpulos para que los distribuyeran a la gente. Todos comieron hasta saciarse. Despues se recogieron los pedazos que habıan sobrado, y llenaron doce canastos". (Lucas 9:15-17). Esta es una hermosa historia que debe ser contada una y otra vez de generacion en generacion, como una gran nueva de liberacion y sanacion para toda la humanidad. Hablar del Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo trae consigo una gran responsabilidad de agradecimiento y renovacion. Nadie que toma el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo en la Eucaristıa puede seguir siendo la misma persona. ¿Quien podrıa seguir viviendo de la misma manera si acude a la Eucaristıa? Comulgar exige cambios, retos y compromisos; Compromisos de apoyo y solidaridad para los que tienen hambre, para los que no tienen voz. Sobretodo, un cristiano seguidor de Jesucristo debe de aprender a ser feliz, a sonreır y tener esperanza en un mundo mejor. Su lema diario debe ser justicia, perdon y amor. La Eucaristıa lleva todo esto y aun va mas alla; compromiso de ser otro Cristo para los demas. En el Evangelio, Jesus es muy generoso, da de comer hasta saciarse, ofrece el Reino de Dios y muestra una forma nueva de vivir. Ojala que el pan compartido en cada Eucaristıa sirva para que cese la violencia en nuestras fronteras, ya sean fısicas o fronteras del corazon. Espıritu mismo es vida en la Trinidad. ¡Amen!
