Mother’s Day Before our voice was heard, Before our face was seen,
Before our character was known, The person who loved us is our Mother.
The woman who loved us first, the woman whom we first love, is our Mother. Mother is not a mere a word to forget, but she is the Mix-
ture of our life to be remembered. Our first blood donation that received is our Mother’s Milk. Mother Means Loving, Caring, Bearing
and Scarifying…
“Honor your father and your mother,
so that you may live long in the land
the Lord your God is giving
you.” (Exodus 20:12)
Dear parish friends, I wanted to respond to Fr John’s invitation asking us to speak
about our life and faith during these days of isolation. It has been a challenge in so many ways yet I am realizing the blessings the slowdown has been in my faith life.
When we were in the first days of its occurrence, there was this sense that God was inviting all of us to rethink our lives and the hectic pace of our world...there was also the fear and anxiety of watching the overwhelming numbers with the virus, especially
in the cities near us where many of our relatives reside. Observing the blessings of the courage and tirelessness of the medical personal and essential workers, our neighbors
dropping off groceries at our front doors, the phone calls from others to see if we were okay and the prayers that were continually being offered united us in so many was...
was it possible we were becoming more of a community than we had been? Another awareness is that I am even more grateful that we live in such a beautiful
setting. Because one of the things I think God is inviting us is to take time to be in the silence. I am someone who walks a great deal each day and every sight, sound and smell of the natural world stills my soul as I walk. It has been said that long before the
scriptures were written, Creation was the first Bible. There is much to learn just pay-ing attention.
Solitude affords us a welcome time to ponder many things and pray for all those who are suffering and in need...another is contemplation, spending time in the presence of
God, becoming lost in God who is invisible, to become truly oneself in this encounter. We are being asked to respond to God as an echo. I heard this from a talk I was listen-ing to last week. There is great learning to be had in this time....As St Paul writes In
Galatians 2:20 “It is no longer I that live, but Christ lives in me.” I have also treasured attending Mass on many different sites watching on my iPad,
here at HolyCross with Fr John and parishioners, also on Facebook at my former par-ish in NJ and even a site from the Holy Land that has become dear to me. In addition I
have discovered a very special online Jesuit 30 day retreat to do during this Easter season and a booklet written by Mary DeTurris Poust for daily readings from Easter to
Pentecost. Please know you are all in my prayers and we are all held in the Love of the Risen Lord ....Linda English

In today’s Gospel, Jesus
consoles his apostles by
assuring them that he is
going to prepare an ever-
lasting accommodation
for them in his Father’s
House in Heaven. He
gives them the assurance
that he will come back to
take them to their Heav-
enly abodes. It is then
that Thomas says, “Lord, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?” Jesus answers Thomas’ question with, “I
am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Fa-
ther, but by me.” The basic doctrine of Judaism is that Yahweh
is the Way the Truth and the Life. Hence, Jesus is making a rev-
olutionary claim that he is equivalent to Yahweh. Jesus also de-
clares that he is the safest and surest way to God, discrediting
the notions that all religions are equally sure ways to reach
God, or that no organized religion but only living a good life of
sharing love is necessary to reach God. Jesus, however, is the
Way which he calls narrow because it is the way of focused, lov-
ing, humble, sacrificial service. Jesus is the Truth who teaches
revealed truths about God and God’s relation to man. Jesus al-
so teaches moral truths by demonstrating them in his life. Je-
sus is the Life because, as God, he possesses the eternal life of
God and shares his Divine life with his disciples through the
Word of God and the Sacraments. In short, Jesus reveals the
Father in the way he lives, in the truth of his word and in the
new life that he brings.
