Security Testing Masonite’s Security Door is tested against several security standards. these include aStM F476, which simulates a door being subjected to a repeated kick and aaMa 1304, which tests resisting forced entry equivalent to 300 pounds of brute force. (aStM F476, grade 40 Sections 1, 19, 21, aaMa 1304)

laminated impact Glass a type of safety glass designed to resist flying debris and other unwanted objects from penetrating its structure. it is the same technology used in car windshields and is tested to withstand a 2” x 4” piece of wood thrown at 35MPH.

Tempered Glass glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. tempered glass typically shatters into small fragments rather than sharp shards when broken, making it less likely to cause severe injury and deep lacerations.

HVHZHigh Velocity Hurricane Zone designates a geographic area in Florida incorporating all of Miami/Dade and Broward Counties. Doors installed in this area must meet the most stringent requirements in the entire United States by complying with Florida taS 201 and taS 203 test standards for impact or otherwise be shuttered. all openings must also comply with specific design pressure (DP) ratings in accordance with Florida taS 202.

Wind-borne debris region Defined as coastal areas where wind speeds are 120 MPH or above or 110 MPH within one mile of the coast during inclement weather. Doors in this region are required to meet aStM e1886 and e1996 test standards for impact or be shuttered. all openings must also comply with specific design pressure (DP) ratings in accordance with aStM e330.

insurance PolicyMasonite will cover the deductible on your homeowner’s insurance up to $1,500 if entry is gained due to a failure of a properly locked and installed door system.

ENERGY STARin 2010 the U.S. energY Star qualification criteria for a door system changed. the new criteria eliminates the four climate zone maps previously used to determine the system qualification performance. Climate zones have been replaced with a nationwide product performance criteria for opaque, less than or equal to 1/2 lite and greater than 1/2 lite qualification criteria.

Masonite doors and sidelites use premium polyurethane insulation and multi-pane insulated glass which creates superior insulating properties and lowers heating and cooling bills. our nFrC certified assembled door units may qualify for energY Star 2010. reference the chart below as a general guideline for which Masonite products qualify.

energY Star criteria is based on the system’s performance as measured by the U-Value and the SHgC (Solar Heat gain Coefficient).

1 U-Factor: Measures the rate of heat transfer through a product. it considers all elements of an assembly including conductivity, air flow, and glass emissivity. a lower U-Factor indicates a better insulating product.

2 SHGC: (Solar Heat gain Coefficient) Measures the amount of energy that passes through glass from the sun, creating additional heat. the lower the SHgC, the better it blocks solar heat.
