Agency: Maryland Department of Human Resources Description of data: Life After Welfare: Sixth Report – This report is the sixth in a series of reports that track a sample of families that exit welfare each month. The study looks at how well these families fare after leaving welfare by examining their employment patterns, attachment to other human services programs and other issues. Part of the report focuses on quarterly wage information, employment retention and the industries that most former welfare recipients are employed in. This publication is research produced for the Department by RESI of Towson University. It is an econometric model that uses various measures of the economy, such as projected job growth or decline, in a county-by-county measure throughout Maryland. It then couples the econometric variables with policy implementation variables of the Department’s Family Investment Program – welfare reform implementation. The end product is a 24-month forecast of what will occur with the TCA caseload for the State and for each of our 24 jurisdictions. This data is made available at different geographic levels: state, county, census tract, places, zip codes, etc…. and includes an interactive feature where geographic data can be extracted based on an address. Maps for these boundaries are also included at the site. Information is also available on the Census 2000 American Community Supplementary Survey results, and the Census 2000 redistricting (public law 94-171) data. There are charts and maps for many of the data items. Produce or possess?: These reports are produced using data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. Time period: Census data is updated every 10 years. Population projections are detailed into 17 age groups (0-4, 5-9, 10-14…85+), race (white/non-white), and gender. Labor force projections are detailed by age and gender. Jobs by on-digit SIC. Profiles by jurisdiction for each of the aforementioned items are also available. Also included in this data category are historical 2000 and projected 2001-2010 Public School Enrollment data. Produce or possess?: Projections are produced using Rnd 5C (Baltimore) and Rnd 6.2 (Washington) changes applied to Census 2000 base. School Enrollment projections are formulated using data from the Department of Education, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and the population projections for individuals between 5-17. Highlights are on our website with a complete report available upon request. Time period: Each data series has a different time span, as stated in the above description. Most recent time period available: The most recent population, household and household size projections are provided using the 2000 census as the base year. Mode of travel breaks type of commuting data into work at home, walking, biking, railroad, subway and lightrail, bus and trolley bus, carpools and driving alone. This information is utilized to project trends for business and population growth, infrastructure and transportation needs.
