Mary’s Proper Place

• Mary is not to be venerated above others…

– The perfection of Mary? (Rom. 3:23)

– The perpetual virginity of Mary? (Mt. 13:55-56)

– The assumption of Mary? (Heb. 9:27)

– The intercession of Mary? (Rom. 8:34)

– The preeminence of Mary? (Col. 1:18)

• Mary, however, is a great role model for all mothers today…

Mary: Tribute to Motherhood

• Mary was a sacrificial servant (Lk. 1:38,48)

– She believed God’s word (Lk. 1:38,45)

– She exalted God (Lk. 1:47ff)

– She may have suffered poverty (Lk. 2:6-7,24)

– She had to leave her home (Mt. 2:13ff)

– She may have suffered shame (Jn. 8:41)

Mary: Tribute to Motherhood

• Mary was a sacrificial servant (Lk. 1:38,48)

– She trusted God’s plan (Lk. 2:19,50-51)

– She had pain in her heart (Lk. 2:35)

– She believed in her son (Jn. 2:5)

– She may have felt ridicule (Mk. 3:21-35)

– She watched her son die for others (Jn. 19:25)

Sacrificial Mothers

• Godly mothers sacrifice to teach God’s word to their children (Prov. 1:8; 2 Tim. 1:5; 3:15)

• Godly mothers sacrifice to take care of their family at home (Prov. 31:27-28; 1 Tim. 5:14; Tit. 2:4-5)

• Godly mothers who sacrifice deserve to be honored by their children (Prov. 15:20; 17:25; 30:11,17; Eph. 6:1-2)
