Mary MackillopBy Grace Who is Mary Mackillop?Mary Mackillop is an Australian saint. Mary was poor when she was a child. Mary Helen Mackillop (1842-1909), known in life as Mother Mary of the Cross, was born on 15 January 1842 in Fitzroy, Melbourne, the eldest of eight children of Alexander Mackillop and his wife Flora, ne McDonald. Mary became a teacher in the Catholic School and owned a small boarding school for girls.

What contribution did mary make to Australia?Mary was an Australian saint who has helped many poor kids get an education. Mary opened and ran a number of schools in Australia. Mary opened the first Saint Joseph's School in a disused stable in Penola. Young women came to join Mary. In 1867, Mary was asked by Bishop Shiel to come to Adelaide to start a school. From there, the Sisters spread, in groups to small outback settlements and other places of Australia.

Why did Mary Mackillop do this?At the end of Marys years in being sixteen she started working at a school because her family and her were losing there house and, her mum and dad were becoming very ill. By being a teacher Mary was able to get money so that her mum and dad could buy medicine for themselves and so that Mary and her family could afford more food and water.What are some interesting facts about marys childhoodMary met father Julian at Penola church. Mary was home schooled by her father very well. Mary was the eldest of eight children. At the time Mary's family depended on her income so she was not free to follow her dream.

How did mary make a difference?Mary opened Orphanages as well as opening schools. She provided care for the homeless and both young and old, and Refuges who wished to make a fresh start in life.
