This Is My Beloved Son!

Dear Parishioners,

This Sunday we celebrate this wonderful feast of the Baptism of the Lord and with this, we also conclude the Christmas season. The word baptism means to be immersed. Through our baptism we are immersed in Christ and redeemed by his blood. In the old testament, the Jews used to sacrifice lambs for the forgiveness of their sins. We don’t need to sacrifice a lamb anymore. Jesus is the Lamb who has taken away our transgres-sions and has cleansed us with His blood. Let us live out our baptism, let really be immersed in God’s grace that has given us his own Son that we may have life and have it to the fullest. Let us be immersed in God’s unconditional love. In this Sun-day gospel here this awesome statement of the Father through the Holy Spirit "You are my be-loved Son; with you I am well pleased." Again, what powerful statement this is. As Jesus is being baptized, he is engaged in this endless fire of love with the father and the Holy Spirit. What a great amazing joy is to know that we are loved, even more than we are loved by the Father. Jesus goes on in the gospel of John sharing this ful-filling love of the Father when he says, “as the Father has loved me, so I have loved you, remain in my love”. We too then are coheirs of this love of through our own baptism. We too are the be-loved children of God. As we celebrate this won-derful feast of the Baptism of the Lord, let ask for the grace that we might be open, aware and determined to live as true beloved children of God.

Este Es Mi Hijo Muy Amado!

Estimados Feligreses,

Este domingo celebramos esta hermosa fiesta del Bautismo del Señor y con la misma, también damos por concluida la fiesta de la Navidad. La palabra bautismo significa sumergir. Por nuestro bautismo nosotros estamos sumergidos a la vida de Cristo y redimidos por su sangre. En el antiguo testamento, los judíos solían sacrificar corderos para el perdón de sus pecados. Nosotros, por otra parte, ya no ne-cesitamos tal sacrificio. Jesús es el cordero de Dios que ha tomado todas nuestras inequidades y las ha lavado con su sangre preciosa. Vivamos nuestro bau-tismo. Vamos a sumergirnos en este amor incondicio-nal del Padre por todos nosotros que nos ha dado a su Hijo para que tengamos vida y vida en abundancia. En el evangelio de este domingo escuchamos este fascinante mensaje del Padre por medio del Espíritu Santo “Este mi Hijo amado en el cual he puesto mis complacencias”. Lo dijo una vez más, que palabras tan fuertes son estas. Jesús al estar siendo bauti-zado, se envuelve en este interminable fuego de amor con el Padre y el Espíritu Santo. Esto es causa de una alegría, que más que alegría es un gran gozo. Jesús quiere compartir este gozo con nosotros cuando dice, “como el Padre me ha amado, así los amo yo, permanezcan en mi amor.” Nosotros pues somos coherederos de este amor del Padre por me-dio de nuestro propio bautismo. Nosotros somos también hijos muy amados de Dios. Al celebrar esta gran fiesta del Bautismo del Señor, pidamos por la gracia de poder estar abiertos, atentos, y determi-nados a vivir como verdaderos hijos amados por Dios nuestro Padre.
