Professional Experience � 2002 - Present: Chief Scientist (Co-Founder), TETRADYN (TETRAD Technologies Group, Inc.) Specific projects and accomplishments are described in summary sections above. Development of biomedical and environmental testing, modeling and preventive systems and protocols (including sensor nets, analytical methods, surface treatments, situation awareness communications) relating to biological, chemical & radiation agent) threats. Development of sensing, imaging, and recognition methodologies for (principally) community-based and environmental health threat detection/abatement applications. Management and re-organization of an environmental analysis laboratory. Designed CRAIDO and EcOasis Pod systems (mobile, trailer-based lab analysis pertaining to environmental and public health processes). Analytical instrumentation included GC/MS, FTIR, XRF, AFM, Raman, HPLC, AA and radiation spectroscopy. Extensive architecture design and programming of analytical functions (Matlab, Mathematica, Maple, LISP, Qi, C++, PHP).

R&D in intelligent control, sensing, imaging and actuator response, principally chem/bio/rad: CEBIT (Chemical-Explosives-Biological Identification and Tracking), Nomad Eyes (distributed CEBIT-based situation awareness, early warning and response network) and CUBIT (Coordinated Unified Biothreat Intervention and Treatment). Experienced in setup and management of new lab/center environments, procurement, business development planning including spin-outs and new ventures, new team formation, public presentations and communications. � 2010 - Present: Visiting Graduate Professor, Stratford University (Glen Allen, Virginia) Graduate & undergraduate teaching (maths, humanities, computer/information science, medical informatics); student advising & mentoring; curriculum & program development (applied biomedical science and informatics). Designed XML-based OSML (Open Stream Markup Language) and ANGEL adaptive video codec. Java, C++, XML, PHP, Oracle, MySQL were the primary software resources used. � 1993 - 1998: Assistant/Associate Professor, Physics and Biomedical Engineering (dual appointments), Virginia Commonwealth University (Medical College of Virginia), Richmond, VA Founded and directed the Molecular Engineering and Biocomputing Center (MEBC lab). Research focus on applications of nonlinear models and complex systems (cellular automata, attractors) to biological signaling and nanosystems. Developed genetic-algorithm and neural-net models. Seminal research in quantum solitonic (tensegriton) models, macroscopic quantum effects (biosolitons), nanostructured materials, and experimental work on intracellular submicron imaging using in vitro neural cell cultures.

Teaching included courses in physics and biomedical/biomaths (graduate, undergrad levels) plus PhD supervision. Initiated community mentoring and urban after-school program. Implemented a pioneering internet-based telemedicine information resource and medical informatics network linking U.S. hospitals & companies with institutions in Russia and other countries. Managed student and professional volunteers. Parallel C, C++, Java, LISP, OCCAM, SQL, Oracle were used and taught. � 1988 - 1993: Senior Scientist, Special Projects, SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics (now ST.com), Baltimore MD (Concurrent 1991-1992: Visiting Faculty, VA Tech & Radford Univ.) Introduced use of AFM and STM for defect and fault analysis. Designed prototype development of real-time parallel processing and also a pattern recognition processor chip for object recognition and microcontrol. Core neural chip was later applied to handwritten character recognition. Led and served on technical team and task group for prototyping, training and assimilating feedback on new microprocessor and image processing devices. Established a corporate-university joint research project focused upon neuro/cardio medical signal processing (Silicon Graphics server array). Parallel C, C++, OCCAM were co-developed, used and taught intensively. � 1985 - 88: Senior Engineer / Project Manager, Martin Marietta Aerospace, Baltimore MD Designed and implemented systems for autonomous and guided robots and manipulators. Established artificial intelligence lab for serving autonomous robot R&D. Designed first motion and obstacle-avoidance controller for US Navy deep-sea autonomous underwater robot, employing sonar and lidar. Served as liaison/consultant to partner companies and govt. agencies on sensor, data fusion, recognition. Development of rule-based and frame/schema-based models for expert systems in medical diagnosis, qualitative

reasoning in physics, and in the interpretation and classification of text-based knowledge sources pertaining to

biomedicine, biophysics, and biological/chemical weapons and military systems. Role: Research Scientist

2. US Navy (@ $75M program) through Martin-Marietta 1985 - 1988 Integrated sonar-lidar obstacle avoidance and real-time control system for autonomous underwater robot

vehicles. Military IRAD (internal R&D) program to produce an autonomous untethered vehicle capable of

deep-sea navigation for search and recovery with links for surface-based command and control. Role: Co-PI

3. US Navy through Martin-Marietta 1985 - 1988 Parallel processing for numerical optimization and fault-tolerant, fail-safe redundancy.

Research project to explore and develop both systolic nd MIMD parallel hardware and software pertinent for use

in Aegis cruiser fire control applications and for onboard ballistic and attack-class submarine electronic warfare

4. JESSI (Joint European Semiconductor Science Initiative) Hoare/Cuomo (PI) 1991 – 1993 Development of biologically-based and artificial neural network models for implementation in silicon.

Investigation of neural network and other nonlinear stastistic variants for implementation into 16-bit and 32-bit

core microprocessors for use in character and image-based recognition applications. Included sub-project of

joint research with Center for Brain Sciences at Virginia Tech (VPI) and Radford Universities, working with K.

Pribram and P. Kugler on self-organizing, holographic and quantum-based models of neural dendritic

communications, signal propagation and memory. Role: Senior Scientist

5. Wheat First Securities Dudziak (PI) 3/1/93 – 9/30/93 Study in the use and development of stochastic and nonlinear mathematics, particular simulated annealing,

backpropagation, Boltzmann and hybrid neural-fuzzy-genetic models, for use in mortgage-backed, bond, futures

and derivative securities trading.

6. VCU Foundation Dudziak (PI) 10/1/93 – 6/30/97 Molecular Engineering and Biocomputing Center

Developed curricular, scanning probe microscopy laboratory and computing environment for research into

biomolecular models of computing and sensing including intracellular signaling and membrane-cytoskeleton-

nuclear communications. Focus upon quantum effects in macromolecular electron transport, biosolitons in

protein folding and DNA helical configurations, and the mathematics of multidimensional solitons and chaotic

soliton networks. Activities included setting up and managing computer and microscopy laboratory for use by

biomedical and medical graduate students for coursework and MS/PhD program research projects.

7. National Science Foundation Rao (PI) 10/1/93 – 6/30/95 Atomic and molecular clustering - nanostructured materials

Investigated the application of inverse methods, combinatorical approaches including genetic algorithms, neural

networks, and cellular automata virtual machines as alternatives and improvements over Monte Carlo

simulations pertaining to the modeling of nanostructured clusters. Role: Research Scientist

8. National Science Foundation Dudziak (PI) 9/1/94-8/31/96 Investigation of 2-D and 3-D solitons and interactions. This project coordinated work by the PI and a group of

analytical and computational mathematical physicists from JINR-Dubna, Moscow State Univ. and Budker

Institute of Nuclear Physics in the study of soliton models applicable to protein and DNA, focusing upon

analytical issues (3-D and n-D solitons) and numerics (computational representation, accuracy, optimization)

especially in regard to macromolecular folding and conformational dynamics.
