COMPANY PROFILE I started writing specifically for the Morning Music Market back in 2008. I am a Drama Graduate from Victoria College and had spent my life up until then performing in theatrical productions, theatre restaurants and as part of a musical duo “Makin’ Whoopee” playing around Australia whilst also teaching Singing. Having trained in the theatre I began to miss the “theatre” experience. I was a regular patron of the morning music shows here in my hometown of Frankston and was inspired to try writing a show for myself – hence the birth of JUDY & LIZA. I found that I had a passion for writing and performing for this audience – I was not surprised! I saw the need for quality entertainment in the “musical matinee” genre and wanted to write upbeat shows that had an “intelligence” about them based around appealing musical themes. It is important to me as a non-celebrity that I make sure I use the best musicians, write beautiful and sometimes surprising musical arrangements whilst also paying attention to the whole “look” of the production from the costuming right through to the use of powerpoint images to enhance the “show experience”. The success of JUDY & LIZA spurred me on to continue to develop new material for this market. I am now writing my fourth show, BIG, BLONDE & BEAUTIFU” and loving it! We have toured extensively through the VAPAC venues and more recently have made in-roads into New South Wales and Queensland. Many venues have taken all three of my shows. The last two decades have seen Martine writing, producing and performing small ensemble shows including “Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major” and “Fifties Fever” touring the Australian Clubs and Theatres, whilst also performing in the very successful duo “Makin’ Whoopee!” A hit season of her show “Back to the Seventease” as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 1997 got her back out on the road touring Australian Art Centres, Clubs and performing for corporate events. Martine was then cast as “Liza Minnelli” in a Rat Pack show at Melbourne’s Crown Casino which was the catalyst that inspired Martine to pen and perform her one-woman shows “Judy & Liza” (a moving tribute to Judy Garland and her daughter Liza Minnelli), “Divas” (a sassy show dedicated to Martine’s idols Bette, Babs and Bassey) and her jazzy tribute to father and daughter Natalie and Nat King Cole in “Stardust”. Martine, along with her husband Ron, now also run “Voicebox Singing School” on the Mornington Peninsula where she delights in fostering and developing the talent of tomorrow. SIMON STONE Simon is a pianist and musical director, whose work has encompassed opera and musical theatre, in classical and more popular genres. He has played keyboard in the orchestras for the Melbourne seasons of "Phantom of the Opera", "Les Miserables", "Chicago", "Sunset Boulevard", "Showboat" and “Dr Zhivago”, and has worked in the showbands on the m/s Sunbird (Sun Cruises), m/v Rotterdam (Holland America Line), m/v Galaxy (Celebrity Cruises) and m/v Mercury (Celebrity Cruises). Simon studied piano with Associate Professor Stephen McIntyre at the University of Melbourne and graduated with the award for the best final year student. As a student, he recorded a concerto with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for ABC-FM.

SUITABLE VENUES All Shows are written to be performed in proscenium arch venues however I am happy to perform town halls and in Cabaret Settings. AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT OVERVIEW My Shows provide an “escape” from the audiences’ everyday lives. They entertain and involve the patrons through a shared love of great, instantly recognisable songs and music. Sometimes the shows resonate very deeply


with patrons on an emotional level and I write the shows in such a way as there is a “journey” of sorts – always finishing in an upbeat way. The ongoing interplay directly with the audience is a feature of my performances. It is important to me that the audience feels “included” in the performance (even if they don’t realise it at the time) and that they are “part” of the show rather than just mute spectators. In this way they are more “emotionally invested” and leave the theatre having had a full “experience”. DESCRIPTION / DETAILS No Workshops offered. PRODUCTION DETAILS TECHNICAL SUMMARY SOUND: Miked Grand Piano, 2-3 foldback wedges, cordless mic with stand and mic at the piano, Sound System and Operator. LIGHTING: Standard rig with a couple of specials. Accompanist to be lit from above. Followspot (where available). Operator/s for lighting. STAGING: Small table onstage next to piano. Piano stool. Projection equipment and cyc/ screen at the back of the stage(opt). EXAMPLE SCHEDULE Super quick and easy! We arrive at the theatre 90 minutes before the show. Our Tech Specs have been forwarded to the venue well in advance so if there are any adjustments they have been worked out before the day of performance. We generally soundcheck 30-45 minutes before the show. CREW REQUIRED FROM VENUE We require both a lighting and a sound operator (usually one of these people are also able to operate the Powerpoint if the theatre is able to use that technology). A Followspot Operator is always a bonus! The soundcheck is usually done within the hour before the show and the show runs for approx. 80 minutes. STAGE We can work on a small or large stage. We require very little (although we must have a good quality piano or keyboard). Usually a small table on stage and a stool. Where venues are using the 3-piece band, a rostra back and centre for the Bass and Drums always looks great. Martine Pavey to supply We supply the show including the performers & musicians.
