MARTIN information MARTIN's history dates back to the year 1925. At that time Josef Martin developed the reverse-acting grate, an innovative system for combusting fuels rich in inert material, and set up his own company. Founded in Munich, Josef Martin Feuerungsbau GmbH supplied more than 350 grates of this type to industrial and mining power plants to generate energy by combusting ash- and water-rich residues from the treatment of coal. The experience gained over the decades with these problematic fuels laid a firm foundation for the company's expansion. From the end of the 1950s, the reverse-acting grate was used primarily for the thermal treatment of and recovery of energy from municipal and commercial waste. In 1982, MARTIN GmbH für Umwelt- und Energietechnik succeeded Josef Martin Feuerungsbau GmbH. Today, MARTIN is a medium-sized, fourth-generation, family-owned business. Around 200 employees work towards the success of both the company and its customers at MARTIN's office in Leopoldstrasse, Munich. In 2002, additional grate technologies where integrated into MARTIN's portfolio when the horizontal grate and reverse-acting grate SITY 2000 were acquired, thus strengthening and expanding MARTIN's firm position in the waste-to-energy market. MARTIN is now one of the global leaders in the industry. It provides the detail engineering for all combustion systems and has them manufactured at proven, quality-controlled companies. Steam boilers designed and dimensioned by MARTIN are also among the company's core products. In Switzerland and Portugal, MARTIN has set up manufacturing facilities to provide boiler services, in particular for cladded products. For online cleaning of the boiler surfaces, shock pulse generators manufactured by Explosion Power, a company acquired by MARTIN at the start of 2016, are being used with increasing frequency. In 2015, MARTIN concluded a cooperation agreement with Thöni Industriebetriebe GmbH from Telfs/Austria, thereby significantly expanding its product portfolio to include technology for the treatment of organic waste. In 2018, MARTIN and Küttner Holding GmbH & Co founded KÜTTNER MARTIN Technology GmbH, based in Munich. Küttner and MARTIN each hold 50 % of and jointly manage the new enterprise, which specializes in the global sale and construction of plants for the thermal treatment of municipal sewage sludge equipped with fluidized bed systems. This puts MARTIN in a position to offer a comprehensive product portfolio suited to meet a wide range of requirements for various types of waste. In 2018, MARTIN and its long-standing partner CNIM founded CNIM MARTIN Pvt. Ltd., based in Chennai, India. The new company will market and build plants for the combustion of biomass and household waste in India and Southeast Asia. For the combustion of waste, MARTIN developed a grate specifically suited for the region and based on the reverse-acting grate principle.

MARTIN's history dates back to the year 1925.

MARTIN is a machine and plant manufacturer. All products and services are designed for the treatment of residual materials and are tailored to exploit the individual energy and material recovery potentials of the various waste streams. This is a significant contribution to saving valuable resources.

MARTIN covers the whole range of activities in the construction of waste treatment plants. Depending on our customer's wishes, we act as a general contractor for the construction of turnkey plants, as a consortium member/leader for key lots such as the combustion system/boiler or digester, or we act as an engineering partner or grate supplier for our cooperation partners.

MARTIN provides the detail engineering for the combustion system and has them manufactured at proven, quality-controlled companies. The steam boilers can be designed as "MARTIN" boilers according to specific needs or be supplied by competent boiler companies. All other lots such as the flue gas cleaning system, thermal cycle, instrumentation and control technology and the civil part are provided by experienced suppliers using MARTIN know-how.

As well as building new waste-to-energy plants, MARTIN also deals extensively with the modification and optimization of existing plants. We are responsible for engineering, design, manufacture, installation and start-up, including the required project management, interface handling, schedule monitoring and quality control processes.

An experienced and efficient service team supports all European MARTIN plants after start-up. We supply spare parts, carry out maintenance and repair work and act as consultants for the operation and optimization of plants.

We have been involved in close partnerships with renowned companies around the globe for decades. Usually we perform the engineering work and supply the combustion systems or components while our cooperation partners are generally responsible for supplying the turnkey plant. We consequently have acquired comprehensive experience involving a wide range of waste qualities and boundary conditions in many countries.

Research and development are an important aspect of our work. The improvement and optimization of existing components and processes are as important as developing new processes. This work is carried out either entirely with our own resources or in cooperation with universities, research institutes and cooperation partners.
