History and Background
1996 the German research foundation (DFG) supports Virtual Libraries,
1999 the federal Ministry for education and research of germany, BMBF, supports the constitution of four information networks, the information alliance.

2001 cooperation agreement between the german research foundation (DFG) and the federal ministry for education and research (BMBF) to centralize the sponsoring for virtual access to scientific information
2002 decision of the involved parties to build up one Portal to scientific information in germany, Vascoda

Focusses on providing digital full-texts, published materials and grey literature
Combines the search results of databases with the electronic full-texts provided either by publishers, grey-literature- or preprint-servers etc.
