An Opulent urban fort- “Shaniwarwada Palace”

The most glorious symbol of past, that still stands today, are the ramparts of ‘Shaniwarwada,’ the historic mansion of Peshawas of the Maratha Empire.

The palace became the Centre of Indian politics in the 18th century. It acclaimed tremendous importance and is the city’s main attraction till date.

Proof of the Epic Love story of Bajirao-Mastani, The seven storied stately mansion has five gateways and nine bastions that encloses the entire palace. The principal gate is called Dilli Darwaja (Delhi Gate); the other gates are called Mastani or Alibahadur Darwaja, Khidki Darwaja, Ganesh Darwaja and Narayan Darwaja.

A sixteen petal lotus-shaped fountain Hazari Karanje (Fountain of a thousand jets) stands reminiscent of the exquisite work of those times. Each petal had 16 jets with an 80-foot arch. It was the most complicated and intricate fountain of its time.
