From the Principal’s Desk
With almost half the term over, staff and students have settled into their routines at school.
We had our first Scripture lesson yesterday, and I would like to thank Michelle Pattison and Delwyn Craig for returning to look after these classes.
The last few days, with the weather cooling in the morning, children have been wearing jackets. It would be appreciated if all items could be clearly labelled.
Over the next few weeks we have a number of events at school. Black Billy Cup is on next Wednesday at the Junee Pool. If you are able to help on this day it would be appreciated as we are the organising school.
Last week I spoke to the children about bus safety. The children were reminded about safe behaviour on buses and when it is safe to cross the road.
Next Friday, 3rd March, Mr Adamson will accompany Ethan and Clayton to Sydney to participate in the Young Leaders’ Day.

Primary Progress
So far, we have been doing research on a state in our beautiful country. We have to choose a state out of: QLD (Queensland), NSW (New South Wales), VIC (Victoria), SA (South Australia), WA (Western Australia), and TAS (Tasmania).
We have to find out: the major cities/towns, capital city, state population, state size, rivers/mountains, what sea/oceans surround your state, major tourist attractions, trace or draw your state, then mark the cities, mountains and rivers using 1,2,3…, Premier of state and state flag and emblem. We’ve all done research on a river or mountain in Australia.
Clayton.

What’s Happening in K-2
Hello and welcome to Miss Salzkes’ K-2 class for 2017. I would
firstly like to thank everyone who has made my first few weeks
at Marrar Public School so welcoming and enjoyable.
What a way to start the year! K-2 and I have been working with
Mrs O’Neill to plan and prepare fantastic learning
opportunities for the students in K-2. We have begun a literacy
unit focusing on the author Mem Fox, reading many of her
wonderful stories along the way. Writing tasks have been
based off these texts and students have already shown massive
improvement within their own writing.
This week has been the beginning of Woofy’s Adventures in K-
2. You will notice that throughout the term, each student in K-2
will be able to take Woofy on an adventure to their home for
the week. Students are able to write and draw what they did
with Woofy over that week in the class book focusing on
writing great sentences with capitol letters, full stops and
finger spaces. I’m sure Woofy will have so much fun visiting
everyone’s homes and sharing a part of their lives outside of
school.
As a class, we have decided to participate in the 6 L’s star chart
reward program. The 6 L’s are look, listen, lips, laps, legs and
LEARN. These 6 L’s demonstrate all of our class rules to ensure
we are all learning in a safe and supportive environment with
our peers. Students can earn points towards a prize draw out
of my special prize box. Students have to receive 10 points
before they can choose a prize that demonstrates their efforts
both inside and outside the classroom.
A lot has been happening in K-2 so far this term and there will
be plenty more to come as we face the rest of the 2017
schooling year. Thanks again to staff, students and their
families for the very welcoming and enjoyable first few weeks
at Marrar Public School. I am excited to see what the year
ahead brings.
Library Leaves
It is great to see so many students keen to borrow from the Library again this year. I have just ordered some more new books from Ashton Scholastic through Book Club, so keep a lookout for these books in the coming weeks. Don’t forget that Library for both K-2 and the 3-6 class is now on every MONDAY this year, and please bring your Library Bag for borrowing.
Over the past couple of weeks we continued reading, and completing various activities, based on James and the Giant Peach. We have just been introduced to some very strange creatures, who will now go on the journey with James. Each student has chosen Earthworm, Grasshopper, Lady Bird, Spider, Glow Worm or Centipede to study, and record how its character develops or changes during the story.

Come and see Mrs O’Neill and she will lend you a helping hand.

Wednesday 1st March is Black Billy Cup at the Junee Aquatic Centre. The children are to meet the teachers at the pool by 9am.
We have begun training for the Cross Country that will be held at Marrar later in the term. I have been impressed with efforts so far, well done!
On Thursday 9th and Friday 10th March the children, as a part of Sporting Schools the students will be participating in a Bike Education program. It will run for 3 hours, both days. The children will need to bring in their bike and helmet to take part. We will be able to lock the bikes up at school, and share bikes as needed.

A Quick Bite Crunch & Sip doesn’t have to be boring!
Are your kids bored of always having the same thing for their Crunch & Sip break? Yes, then why not try packing a variety pack? Some ideas include: •Sugar snap peas and tomatoes •Grapes and mango •Kiwi fruit (don't forget the spoon…) •Corn, carrot & cucumber
•Green beans and red capsicum •A tub of frozen peas, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms •Melon balls—using various types of melons •Add a little piece with radish, rocket and cucumber To continue adding a bit of variety why not change the packing too. Instead of whole fruit, why not pack a combination of fruit and vegetables in little boxes, or sealable bags.
