Principal’s Report
Thank you, thank you, thank you
It was a pleasure to welcome so many parents and community members to our thank you
morning tea this morning. The morning tea was an opportunity to thank everyone for their
generosity and support of our school, students and staff in 2016. A school is so much more
than the learning programs, classrooms, students and teachers. It is a community and we
certainly could not have achieved all that we have this year without the incredible support of
our parents and wider community. Some of these wonderful people and teams include:
The scripture and ethics teachers who volunteer their time every week throughout the year.
Your contribution is invaluable.
The many, many parents who have assisted in classrooms to support students and assist
teachers with a multitude of tasks from book covering to resource making, helping with
reading groups and assisting on excursions.
The dedicated members of the P&C including the executive. Your efforts and activities are too
many to list. We appreciate your efforts and could not have done it without you.
The wonderful School Council parent representatives who guide and direct the school in many
areas including policy implementation and new initiatives.
Our parent representatives on the school’s merit selection panels, Davina and Neil, thank you
for your time.
Congratulations Lucy and Tatiana for raising a grand sum of $940.35 from your brilliant
initiative, Souls for Souls Day. You are a wonderful example to us all and I know the children
at Ronald McDonald House who receive these gifts, will be very grateful. Thank you to all who
supported the girls and to the students who generously donated to this project.
Have a lovely weekend

Creative Design I had the privilege of visiting 1B yesterday and I was lucky to hear about all the learning that they have been
doing in Geography. Along with 1Z, they have been learning about natural and built environments and they had
to design a special 3D park that could be built close to their home. They had to think about -: the important
things that you need in a park, who will visit their park and the name of their park. They had to build a model of
their park design using recycled objects. Here are some of their great models. Congratulations 1B and 1Z on your
creative work.
Band Concert
Mrs Te Rata and I thoroughly enjoyed the end of year Band Concert yesterday. The Junior Band has come such a
long way in their music development over the year. We enjoyed some solo and small group performances
initiated by the students who had been practising hard at home on their pieces. The Senior Band also performed
some polished pieces which were enjoyed by all. A highlight of the concert was when both the Junior and Senior
band combined to entertain the crowd. A huge thank you goes out to Woody, all the band tutors and Directions
In Music for all of their hard work in inspiring our students through music. Thank you to all the parents of our
band members for supporting their child’s participation in band and of course a huge thank you to all of our
fantastic musicians – Well done everyone!
Have a great week everyone!

2017 Student Leader Elections This year we had 16 Year 5 Girls and 7 Year 5 Boys students who nominated themselves for a Student Leader
position for 2017. The 16 girls presented their speeches to the Year 5 cohort last week. The standard of speeches
were exceptionally high and it was wonderful to hear how passionate our Year 5 students are about Maroubra
Junction Public School. Congratulations to the all the candidates for their nomination and having the courage to
participate in the process.
After the speeches the Year 5 cohort voted via ballot to shortlist the candidates to 8 girls. These girls will join the

YEAR 6 MINI FETE
Year 6 will be hosting the annual Maroubra Junction Mini Fete fundraiser on Thursday 8th December from 11.45am
until 12.55pm. Students from Kindergarten to Year 5 will be invited on this day to visit the 16 exciting stalls Year 6
have created. There will be a variety of food and game stalls for the students. The following page of this newsletter
features information about each stall, items for sale and pricing so you can discuss each option with your child. There
will be many things on offer to purchase so please don’t forget to provide your child with money on the day. All the
profits the Year 6 students make from the stalls are used to buy the school a gift on behalf of Year 6 2016. Year 6
will be presenting skits to advertise their stall at the K-6 assembly this Friday. They are also currently working on
posters to advertise their stall to be displayed around the school, so please keep your eye out! We have some very
excited Year 6 students! Thank you for your anticipated support!

iPad My entertainment
Bright interactive screen With animation sprouting in my
face Joy and happiness zooming
through my soul Enjoyment.
My vanguard and Protection
It’s like my guardian at night And entertainment in the morning
Protector. I can feel
The flush edges The glass edges
It lightens my heart When I'm down
It feels like a greasy blob of Rubber.
I can hear the thunderous sound It makes
It's as loud as a roaring tiger. My friend
My coordinator It will always be
My iPad.

Talismanic Poems Stage 3 have been writing poems this term about an object that is very special to them. In the poem they had to describe the object and their
personal connection to it. Year 6 would like to share some of their creations with you.
Ramp Shredder Tail Whip flat,
Kickless, Triple Tail Whip,
My silver and gold lightning bolt speeding across the skate park,
When I ride on my scooter I am excited as a young boy on his birthday at Luna Park,
My passion, My life,
Hanging out with me and my friends, It spins faster than a fan,
But after a long day riding it’s finally time to rest
By Finn in 6F
Blanky I ask how long will u be here
“As long as you need me it,” replies in a soft voice
As we lay down in bed trying to fall asleep My memory-holder stays in my room waiting for me to spill more thoughts.
My companion as I sit and watch movies with my tear-catch.
My protector given to me by my grandma at the age of 1.
Sweeping across the floor with me dragging it as I first learned to walk.
Giving my grandma a big toothless smile to show my thanks.
I would feel very distraught without my blanket of eternal warmth and coat of secu-
rity My memory-holder, My companion, My tear
-catcher, My protector, MY BLANKY.

Cheeky Monkeys Laughter from years ago,
three cheeky monkeys playing in the dirt,
Smiles as big as the moon. Never forgotten, never lost
Always holds a place in my heart, memories captured for me to watch,
caterpillars into butterflies, sunflowers sprouting
and sprouting and sprouting
slowly changing. Bells ringing,
cheerful music, bright sparks,
all these things from one
photograph.

Blanket Poem
It is my armour and shield
that keeps me safe each night,
It shows me through the darkness to
reach the morning light.
Made with two hands,
and the love of one’s heart.
Handmade is extraordinary
And a true work of art.
A gift that's handmade,
is a gift not replaced,
entrapping sweet memories,
that cannot be erased…..
It is loyal and friendly,
as it never left my side.
It made me feel safe,
like a mother can for a child.
It is my blanket
that is as warm as a s’more,
that dances in the wind as I clench it.
It was and will always be my blanket

Circular-Beauty Light-giver.
12 hazel eyes, glowing and lighting up my life. Sharing its abilities to shine on anybody.
Knight. Erasing fiendish demons.
The light reflecting off my enemies. Battle scars. Not perfect.
Memory-trigger. Japan, mum, sailing thousands of kilometers, to
find me. 1000, 2000, 3000.
Just for me. 6 years, it is my second teacher.
Flooding my brain with valuable lessons. Lessons of time. Heart-warmer.
My pink cockatoo. Gliding through the white clouded sky, painting it
with its fresh, juicy, summer peach wings. 12 attentive bodyguards.
Devoted to their job, with tired faces still watch-ing over me.
Hugging me with hands of time. 12 black and green genies.
Gifting me with the strength of 60 wishes, that I need not use promptly.
I have all the time in the world. By: Nicole 6H

We are still tallying up the expenses for the disco, so will let you know how much money was raised in next week’s newsletter. Tonight (1st December) will be our last P&C Meeting for the year. Please join us for a light supper to celebrate the end of a successful fundraising year and to thank the out-going Executive Committee.
