comedy brings the deliriously

delightful world of Gomez,

an original story and it’s

every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate

princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a

sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. And if that

weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs

him not to tell her mother.

Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before

– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will

change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a

dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

South Pacific

After 7 Tony Awards ® and sell-out seasons on Broadway and the

West End, the Lincoln Centre Theatre's stunning production of

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific returns in 2013.

With unprecedented critical acclaim, the 2012 premiere season in

Sydney sold-out and due to overwhelming demand, a return season at

Sydney Opera House has been announced for September 2013.

Starring Teddy Tahu Rhodes, South Pacific will play the Sydney Opera

superb 34-piece orchestra playing what is undoubtedly one of Rodgers

to see this truly extraordinary production.

Relive the romance and don’t miss showstoppers like ‘Some Enchanted

CARER’S WEEK

Runs from 14th October until 20th October, 2012.

Randwick City Council in conjunction with the Ritz Cinema are proud

to celebrate Carers Week with a red carpet screening of the new

Australian movie Mental (MA15+) at 7pm on Thursday 4 October at

The Ritz Cinema, Randwick. This special Carers Week event will

include an introduction by guest speaker PJ Hogan, director of Men-

tal, which stars stars Toni Collette, Anthony Lapaglia, Rebecca Gib-

ney, Liev Schreiber and Deborah Mailman. The comedy/drama fol-

lows the story of the Moochmore girls who are certain they suffer

from some undiagnosed mental illness - because if they are not

crazy then they're just unpopular! Their mother Shirley (Gibney),

unable to cope with her demanding teenage daughters and philander-

ing politician husband, Barry (LaPaglia), suffers a nervous break-

down. After Barry commits his wife to a mental hospital (telling his

constituents that she's "on holiday") he finds himself alone with five

teenage girls he barely knows. Desperate, he impulsively picks up a

hitchhiker named Shaz (Collette) and installs her in his home as nanny

to his daughters. Everyone is welcome to attend the screening and

tickets are on sale through the Ritz Cinema at their usual great pric-

es! Visit www.ritzcinema.com.au or phone 9399 5722.

Also as part of Carer’s Week, Randwick Council have organised a

an interactive talking tour exploring:

• the colourful history of the Prince Henry Hospital

• the evolution of nursing

• what it was like to be a patient from the 1950s

Many Probus Clubs have a number of inter-club activities, eg:

Bowls Day, Gardening Club, Movie Group, Golf Day, Dinner Group

etc., in the coming months we are going look into setting up other

activities within our club, if you have any suggestions please let me

know and especially if you would like to be involved setting up some

activity.

Cute Joke (Thanks Dorothy)

TWO DIFFERENT DOCTORS' OFFICES .....

(Boy, if this doesn't hit the nail on the head, I don't know what

does!)

Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with the same

complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip

replacement.

The FIRST patient is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the

same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week.

The SECOND sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks for an

appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an

x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another week and finally has his

surgery scheduled for 6 months from then.

Why the different treatment for the two patients?

..... the FIRST is a Golden Retriever.

..... the SECOND is a Senior Citizen.

Next time take me to a vet!

As you are all aware, under Probus Constitution, clubs are not able to

fundraise, however, as stated in the Probus Handbook “the club may

organise a ‘lucky door prize’ which would generate extra income for

the club, ensuring the clubs financial stability and would assist the

club in providing ‘regular meetings and arrange activities to provide

for fellowship, the development of acquaintance and social

interaction’. (Article II – Aims & Objects (b)). Monies realised from

such activities do not amount to fundraising because they are being

banked into the general funds of the club and have not been ‘

earmarked’ for a specific cause. Club monies may be used to

subsidise anniversary or club luncheons” Under this policy we do

charge $3 to cover morning tea and lucky door prizes, to keep cost

low we would be grateful for donations of goods that can be used for

prizes, nothing too big just something that can be wrapped up and in

turn won by lucky members.

Also, to try and reduce costs, I have contacted an organisation in

Maroubra to ask for sponsorship to cover future printing costs, as

yet a decision by the Directors of this company has not made , if

un-successful, I will try somewhere else until hopefully we find a

Sponsor.

I am just about to start the list for next years Guest Speaker, I

would really appreciate some help, if you know of anyone how would be

interesting to the group or a subject that you would like covered,

please let know, unfortunately we don’t have the resources to pay for

speakers, but we do give them a small gift of appreciation.

Page 10: Maroubra Bay Combined Probus Club · 9/1/2013  · 2013 at 1.00pm at the Lyric Theatre $81.00. Final payment due 15th December, 2012, I know that is way before the show but the Producers

I know everyone will think I am crazy talking about March 2013,

role and does take a bit time, however it is done willing for the

benefit of the club and members, but it is still your club and your

input is needed, and remember, when you signed your Application

Concept of Probus and to take an active role in both attendance and

participation of this club. I understand that the information

provided in this application forms part of the requirements of

membership. I acknowledge that at some time during my
