2 Mark Questions1 = WHATThe WHAT is the idea, argument or problem that is being asked in the question

1= HOWThe HOW is how the WHAT is communicated to the audience by a technique. In this you also need to EXPLAIN what effect this has on the audience and the authors opinion on the idea

1. How does Shakespeare use dramatic irony in this scene (Act 1, Scene 4)?(2 Marks)The dramatic irony in this scene is coming from Romeo when he states I fear, too early: for my mind misgives. Some consequence yet hanging in the stars By saying this, as the audience it makes us feel helpless as we already know from the prologue that A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life, and creates an atmosphere of impending doom. The dramatic irony in this scene also create tension in the audience as we feel like we want to warn Romeo of the fatal dangers foreshadowed by the prologue and the mistake he is making by attending the Capulets masquerade ball./2

2. How does Shakespeare convey Mercutios volatile personality?(2 Marks)

3. Why is it important to the play as a whole that the Capulet party is a masquerade?(2 Marks)It is important to the play as a whole that the Capulet party is a masquerade because it hides the identity of the people attending the party and allows barriers to be broken, which are normally able to be seen. Shakespeare purposefully made the Capulet party a Masquerade Ball so Romeo and his fellow Montagues could sneak into the party without being identified by any of the Capulets. These masks symbolise that everyones identity is hidden and ultimately is what stopped Juliet from avoiding him, Too early seen unknown, and known too late! /2
