ROLE PURPOSE To plan and oversee events featured in the Business Plan, managing relationships between the
company and any external parties involved. To ensure that the Board fulfils its governance and
leadership responsibilities and to assist the Chief Operating Officer to achieve overall strategic and
company objectives.
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE The Marketing Director is an Officer of the Board and a Non-Executive Director, elected in
accordance with the Articles of Association and with direct reporting responsibilities to the Chair of
the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Working with the Chief Operating Officer to delivering the events featured in the Business Plan
and agreed by the Board of Directors
Providing regular updates on events at Member Service Working Group meetings
Forging partnerships with relevant agencies
Supporting the governance of SALSC to ensure it is efficient, effective and fit-for-purpose
Constructively challenge and help develop proposals on strategy
Scrutinise the performance of management in meeting agreed goals and objectives and monitor the reporting of performance
Ensure the integrity of financial information and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible
Continually seek to establish and maintain confidence in the conduct of SALSC
Continually seek to develop and refresh their knowledge and skills to ensure that their contribution to the Board remains informed and relevant
Understand the views of the membership directly and through fellow directors and staff
Completing any additional projects as requested by the Chair

As outlined fully in the SALSC Directors Duties, Code of Conduct for Directors and Working Group
Members and other policies and procedures approved by the SALSC Board of Directors and published
on the company’s website.
TERM OF OFFICE All directors, excluding the Chair, are elected for 2 year terms. At the end of each term they must be
re-elected to the Board, albeit with the possibility to stand for a different role. Directors may only
serve a maximum of 3 consecutive terms (6 years) on the Board regardless of how many different
roles they have held during this time. Only if a director is elected as Chair may they serve longer than
6 consecutive years on the Board.
REGULAR ANNUAL COMMITMENTS 4-6 half day meetings of the Board of Directors
4-6 half day meetings of the Audit Working Group
1 weekend for the SALSC National Seminar & AGM
EXPENSES The position of Marketing Director, as with all other Non-Executive Directors, is unpaid. All
reasonable out-of-pocket expense incurred on SALSC business will be reimbursed.
MAIN ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge & Experience: Experience in marketing utilising various media platforms
Experience of governance at either Board or executive level
Experience of, or empathy with companies working in the Volunteer Sector
Skills: Ability to multi-task, planning multiple events simultaneously
Ability to contribute to the governance of the company and the Board of Directors
Ability to contribute to the direction, leadership and strategic vision in a way that inspires
confidence and commitment from others
Developed political acumen
Diplomacy with excellent ambassadorial skills
Ability to negotiate, influence and convince through personal credibility
An excellent communicator
An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and to respect confidences
Personal Qualities: Uphold the highest standards of integrity and probity Support other Directors in their leadership of SALSC while monitoring their own conduct Question intelligently, debate constructively, challenge rigorously and decide dispassionately Listen sensitively to the views of others
