UK Tour 2017

The book based on the show

Tall Stories, creators of the popular stage shows of The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom are delighted to present the 2017 UK tour of their acclaimed production The Snow Dragon. Following a successful Christmas run at London’s St James Theatre in 2014 and a 10th anniversary tour in 2015, this tour runs from October to December 2017. The show has also previously been performed in the USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and Poland.

THE SHOW The night of the Snow Dragon approaches… Billy has everything a young goat could need – and more besides. On New Year’s Eve, Billy is looking forward to the annual visit of the legendary Snow Dragon, who will bring him even more goodies... But when Billy bumps into some hungry wolves in the forest, New Year’s Day seems a long way off. How will Billy escape? And has he been naughty or nice? Toe-tapping songs and lots of laughs for everyone aged 3 and up, from the company that brought you ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘The Snail and the Whale’.

THE COMPANY Tall Stories is a registered charity founded by co-directors Olivia Jacobs and Toby Mitchell in 1997. The company has performed at the National Theatre, at various West End theatres and on Broadway. Tall Stories shows tour to small and large scale venues in the UK, and have performed abroad as far away as Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan and the US.

Tall Stories is committed to providing opportunities for all families to be able to attend the theatre. We

frequently hold Relaxed Performances aimed at children with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder or learning

disability, signed/audio described performances, pre-show touch tours, and more. If you are interested in

or planning on organising a performance of this sort for ‘The Snow Dragon’ we would be delighted to work

5. Company and Creative Team Information

Tall Stories Theatre Company

Since 1997, when Olivia Jacobs and Toby Mitchell set up the company, Tall Stories shows have performed all over the UK, and as far afield as Poland, America, Canada, China and Taiwan. ‘Snow White’, ‘The Gruffalo’ and ‘The Snail and the Whale’ have performed to sell-out audiences on Broadway, and their shows have been produced by local companies in Chile, Singapore and Australia. Their production of ‘The Gruffalo’ has been released on DVD by the Really Useful Group, and a picture book has been published based on their show ‘The Snow Dragon’.

Creative Team

Toby Mitchell (Director) Toby studied at Cambridge University and Central School of Speech and Drama. He has been a French and drama teacher, an editor at Macmillan Children’s Books and designer of Total Theatre Magazine. Recent directing credits include ‘The Snail and the Whale’ (UK/international), ‘Twinkle Twonkle’ (UK/US), ‘The Snow Dragon’ (UK/international), ‘Does a Monster live Next Door?’ (UK tour), ‘Cat and No Mouse’ (UK tour), ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’ (UK tour), ‘The Egg’ (Edinburgh/London) and ‘Alice and Mr Dodgson’ (Edinburgh/London). Recent performing/devising work includes: ‘Monsters Got Talent’, ‘A British Guide to French Pop’, ‘The Island of First Loves’ (Edinburgh) and ‘Pandemonium’ (Edinburgh & London). He has worked with Soho Theatre and the Royal Court and is co-founder and joint artistic director of Tall Stories.

Olivia Jacobs (Creative Producer) Olivia trained at Central School of Speech and Drama and obtained a degree from the University of London before studying Japanese Children’s Theatre in Tokyo. She worked with Besht Tellers, Black Theatre Co-operative and Soho Theatre before becoming Artistic Director of Camden People’s Theatre where she directed The Monkey’s Paw and The Necklace. Her directing credits include: ‘Emily Brown and the Thing’ (UK tour), ‘The Gruffalo’ (UK, US including Broadway, Australia including Sydney Opera House, Asia and various international tours), ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ (UK,US, Asia and various international tours), ‘Snow White’ (UK/US tours including Broadway), ‘Room on the Broom’ (UK/US, Australia including Sydney Opera House, Asia and various international tours), ‘The Extraordinary Adventures of Mr Benn’ (UK/international), ‘How the Giraffe got its Neck’ (UK tour), ‘Monster Hits’ (UK/international), ‘Mum and the Monster’ (UK tour), ‘Something Else’ (UK tour), ‘The Happy Prince’ (UK tour), ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ (UK tour) and ‘Latke Who Couldn’t Stop Screaming’ (UK) Olivia is co-founder and joint artistic director of Tall Stories.

Jollygoodtunes – Music Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw of Jollygoodtunes have been composing music and designing sound for theatre since 1997. Their work with Tall Stories includes ‘Mr Benn’, ‘William’s Monsters’, ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’, ‘Snow White’, ‘Something Else’, ‘The Owl and The Pussycat’, and ‘Rumplestiltskin’. Other sound design work includes, ‘And All the Children Cried’ (BAC, London), ‘Change of Heart’, ‘Modern Man’, ‘This Story of Yours’ (New End Theatre), ‘Measure for Measure Malaya’ (Riverside Studios). Beside their theatre work Shock also compose and record music for TV (BBC2, Discovery Channel, HSBC, Ericsson and Johnnie Walker.)

Yvonne Stone – Puppetry Design Yvonne studied puppetry at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Her theatre credits include ‘How the Giraffe got its Neck’, ‘Room on the Broom’ and ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ (for Tall Stories); Terry Pratchett’s ‘Nation’ (National Theatre); as well as ‘Warhorse’, ‘The Lion King’ and ‘His Dark Materials’. She plays ‘Dib- Dab’ in the BBC’s ‘Doodle Do’ and designed and built all the puppet elements for the BBC show ‘Space Pirates’.

Will Evans – Lighting Design Will trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shows for Tall Stories: ‘My Brother the Robot’, ‘Twinkle Twonkle’, ‘How the Giraffe Got its Neck’, ‘William’s Monster’, ‘Does a Monster Live Next Door?’, ‘Cat and No Mouse’ & Associate Lighting Designer for ‘The Gruffalo’. Other credits include: ’66 Books’ and ‘Mudlarks’ (Bush Theatre) ’Bloody Ballad of Mary Maid’ (Theatr Iolo), ‘Dream Space’ (Shakespeare’s Globe), ‘Mr Happiness’ and ‘The Water Engine’ (Old Vic Tunnels) ‘Tales of the Harrow Road’ (Soho Theatre), ‘Aliens Love Underpants', ’Stuck’, ‘The Way Back Home’, ‘The Night Before Christmas’, ‘Don’t let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!’ (Big Wooden Horse).
