and perspectives in a combination of interviews, voice of god narration and

Two different advertisement posters
displayed in the documentary showing
clear themes of merchandising
Narrative Structure: Linear. This documentary (Marketing Movies) uses a linear narrative
structure going from the beginning of the film industry – marketing to merchandise. The documentary is split up into clear sections
presented above and to the right of this text.
Camerawork in Documentary: The documentary shows clips of a variety interviews throughout
associating to what is going on in the scenes of the documentary. The interviewee is shown in a rule of third shot in a close up frame. This frame was
used when filming the documentary as the audience can focus purely on the interviewee
rather than the background of the fame.
Mise-en-scene in Documentary: The documentary Marketing Movies uses a film based mise-en-scene for the background of interviews. In the images above it shows an
image of Ariel from The Little Mermaid with the interviewee sat in front. This keeps the theme of films present and also relates to what the
interviewees are saying – in parts of the documentary refering to that very film. This is
also shown with the Mouse Hunt poster in another interview frame.
Editing in the Documentary: In the Marketing Movies documentary cut aways are used between interview questions relevant to the film being talked about or
the industry in general. Eg. cinemas, box office, trailers and premieres. The documentary also uses a mix of fast and slow pace editing depending on if the
scene is busy and chaotic or relaxed – when recording an interview.
Archive Material in the Documentary: The Documentary uses Archive Matrial which include
originial trailers from the time, videos from premieres which are mentioned by interviewees
for the film Mouse Hunt and merchandise sold for different movies including mostly The Borrowers
and The Little Mermaid.
Graphics in the Documentary: The documentary mostly uses graphics when showing how the trailers are
made as shown on the right. Newspaper clippings are also used to
show reviews of different films produced.
