Most people are intrigued by the beauty and the history of luxury houses knowing that they might never get the chance to live in such grandiosity but wanting to get a glimpse of that life anyway.
However, there are also people who want to obtain all the details about various luxury houses because they are looking for the best property to buy. When it comes to shopping around for a luxury house, England is probably one of the best locations to check first.
The Most Expensive Luxury Homes in England
The country has a sizable list of luxury homes, some of which date back to medieval times. As such, these homes are often made in various types of architecture that are no longer being done by modern-day architects.
These homes also often have huge tracts of land that serve as its front and back yards. These are perfect for those who wish to own a home that bears the ambience of a medieval romance story.
Buckingham Palace
This is by far one of the grandest and most expensive homes in England. That is because it is the official residence of Britain’s reigning monarch, currently the incumbent Queen Elizabeth II. It has a total of no less than 775 rooms that are subdivided into:
52 official bedrooms, including the royal suites and various guest bedrooms
188 bedrooms for the staff 78 bathrooms 92 offices, including a post office 19 state rooms
The palace is currently listed as the most expensive property in the world, which is currently priced at a little over £1 billion. The price does not only take into account the size of the Queen’s royal residence. The palace’s long and often tumultuous history is also and added factor for its valuation, as well as the fact that it belongs to one of the world’s oldest monarchies.
The palace plays a central role to the monarchy since it is the site where most official state events and parties are held.
Wentworth Woodhouse
This has been the location for more than a few movies. The mansion has such a rich history that dates back to the late 1600’s. It was originally owned by the Marquess of Rockingham, but the title became extinct after the 2nd Marquess’ death.
The estate was then passed on to the 4thEarl Fitzwilliam, who became the inspiration for the character of Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen’s famous novel Pride and Prejudice.
Unfortunately, the house has fallen into disrepair and some of its original furnishings now need a lot of restoration work. Its last owner, the late architect Clifford Newbold, has done some restoration around the house since he bought it in 1999.
However, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Despite this fact, Wentworth Woodhouse still stands first on the ranks of the largest and most luxurious houses in England.
As a matter of fact, the house is so big that it stands on more than 2 acres of land. It is believed to be two times wider than Buckingham Palace.
Experts also believe that the house contains 365 rooms, although no one can confirm the exact number because of the house vastness.
Toprak Mansion
The mansion sits on a plot of land along a road that has been aptly nicknamed by locals as Millionaire’s Row. The mansion was originally owned by Turkish banker Halis Toprak.
True to his Turkish origins, Mr. Toprak made sure that one of the mansion’s grandest features is a luxurious Turkish bath. It is grand enough to fit at least 20 people at the same time.
The rest of the house also has a Mediterranean feel complete with Grecian pillars and double staircase that is covered in a red carpet lined with gold threads. The house was sold in 2008 for a whopping £50 million to Kazakh billionaire Horelma Peraman.
She has since made some changes to the mansion by adding a spa and salon, as well as a helipad. Another major change to the mansion is the change of its name from Toprak Mansion to Royal Mansion.
There is no need to look any further than the general location of the Royal Mansion just to find other examples of the most luxurious houses in England. The mansion is located along The Bishops Ave at the Hampstead Garden Suburb.
The architecture of the other luxurious houses in the area is inspired by ancient Roman and Greek designs, while there are also a few homes that give off a classic English country house vibe.
