    About Us

    The College of Arts and Sciences Student Council serves asthe highest student governing body in the University of thePhilippines Los Banos College of Arts and Sciences. Itinitiates, organizes, and implements student activities in theCollege of Arts and Sciences, and strives to protect the rightsand welfare of CAS students. It conducts projects whichsupport the students, both academically and environmentally. Itaims to produce well rounded CAS students throughcooperation with the departments and institutes in the Collegeof Arts and Sciences, as well as, CAS individuals,

    organizations, sororities, and fraternities. It is composed of aChairperson, a Vice Chairperson, a College Representative,and thirteen college councilors.

    CAS Fair 2011 will be held on December 8-9, 2011 at the University of thePhilippines Los Banos Oblation Grounds.

    There will be a series of challenging and exciting events during the duration ofthe fair capturing the theme: Di ka lang Iskolar Ng Bayan, Iskolar ka din ParaSa Bayan.

    History

    CAS Fair is an annual activity spearheaded by the CAS Student

    Council, in partnership with a number of student organizations,fraternities and sororities, which commemorates the anniversary ofUPLBs College of Arts and Sciences, showcases the talents andachievements of the CAS constituents, and aims to give back to thecommunity of the University of the Philippines Los Banos.

    Background

    The College of Arts and Sciences being the largest college in the University ofthe Philippines Los Banos houses a great number of skilled and talented

    students, faculty and staff. CAS Fair 2011 is an avenue for these talents andachievements to be seen and recognized.

    CAS Fair 2011 is a fun activity intended to reach-out and encourage the CASconstituents to give back to its community. This years CAS Fairaims to raiseenough funds to refurbish the institute libraries in the College of Arts andSciences. In doing this, we are supporting our universitys call for academicexcellence.

    CAS Fair 2011will also stage the united voice of every Iskolars cry for a betterquality education through positive propaganda and campaign drives.

    Lastly, CAS Fair 2011 will serve as a celebration of the empowerment of theyouth as the future leaders of our nation- future leaders who will strive to be alight to this nation.

    1. Three Good Deeds AdvocacySegment Head: Ben Henry Baang, CAS Freshmen Representative

    Segment Date/s: Day before the First Night of the Fair (Wednesday)

    Segment Description:Based on a movie adaptation of a book Pay It Forward, This Christmas Season, The CAS StudentCouncil initiates the advocacy to let one reciprocate kindness not to the giver but to someone

    else, especially someone you barely know. The person involve must do a deed of kindness to

    three people. Those people in turn, must do also a deed to three other people. The purpose of

    the advocacy is to spread the charity virus exponentially to as many people as possible in

    simple ways, making the world a warmer place one College at a time.

    2. Limang Segundo Para Sa Pagbabago ProjectSegment Head: Ben Henry Baang, CAS Freshmen Representative

    Segment Date/s: First and Second Night of the Fair

    Segment Description:

    A nations progress starts from a simple answer, and it only takes a 5 seconds response. The

    Limang Segundo para sa Pagbabago Projectstresses on the question, Iskolar ng Bayan, anong

    magagawa mo para sa bayan?. It aims to be a national viral campaign that aims to reach all the

    SUCs in the whole Philippines. The question is a subtle yet effective response on how the youth,

    as the future leaders of this nation, can do something even this early on.

    3. CAS Fair 2011 Songwriting Contest

    Segment Head: Ben Henry Baang, CAS Freshmen Representative

    Segment Date: Second Night of the Fair

    Segment Description:

    This competition is open to all UPLB students who have an interest in song writing and music-

    making. The lyrics of the song should revolve around CAS Fair 2011s theme Di ka lang Iskolar

    ng Bayan, Iskolar ka din Para Sa Bayan.

    4. Gandang LiCASSegment Head: Jessica Baniaga, CAS Councilor

    Segment Date/s: First and Second of the Fair

    Segment Description:

    Gandang LiCAS is an atypical pageant characterizing a UPLB student, an Iskolar ng at para sa

    Bayan. The competition aims to characterize a well-rounded UPLB student, who is expected to

    have the brains and the character to survive UPLB life. The participants need to maintain grace

    and confidence while their ability to

    answer UPLB questions and their perseverance to tackle on challenges are being tested and

    examined.

    Prize/s: Cash Prize of Php 1,500.00

    5. ShowCAS: A Talent ShowdownSegment Head: Antonio Santillan, CAS Councilor

    Segment Date/s: First and Second Night of the Fair

    Segment Description:

    ShowCAS is an opportunity to showcase the different talents and skills housed in the College of

    Arts and Sciences.

    6. BigCASanSegment Head: Gina-Lyn Laurenciano, CAS Councilor

    Partner Organization: PI Omicron Fraternity

    Segment Description:

    BigCASan is the College of Arts and Sciences version of Flip-top where students can brag about

    their professors, courses, or just anything under the sun in a rapping manner.

    Prize/s: Cash Prize of Php 1,500.00 and a shirt

    8. Sky Full of Lighters: Flying Lanterns For a CauseSegment Head: Marion Joyce Divino, CAS Chairperson

    Segment Description:

    Sky full of Lighters is a fund-raising activity where students can purchase flying lanterns for the

    benefit of the refurbishing of the different Department and Institute libraries at the College of

    Arts and Sciences.

    9. CAS Bazaar 2011Coordinator: Marion Joyce Divino, CAS Chairperson

    Description:CAS Bazaar 2011 is a two-night bazaar, that will be participated by the different organizations,

    fraternities and sororities which are based in the College of Arts and Sciences, wherein they will

    be able to raise funds for their organizations cause.

    Partner Organization: UPLB Grange Association

    Description:CAS Carnival 2011 is a one of the main attractions of this years CAS Fair which will include a

    Ferris Wheel ride, and a Caterpillar or Octopus ride.
