My name is Markéta Jírová, I come from Czech Republic and I am 24 years-old student of Faculty of Architecture at CTU in Prague. I am finishing my Master degree and I am currently looking for an internship in architectural office, before I start my professionalcareer. By this portfolio I would like to portray myself not only as a person, but also as a potential trainee. I have chosen three of my projects to illustrate my attitude,knowldege and skills. The presentation aims to be as clear and brief as possible,emphasizing main idea, overall context and functionalityof each individual project.

“REACH THE STARS”RUDOLFINUM MUSIC HALL EXTENSION

PRAGUE, JAN PALACH SQUARE

Rudolfinum – the current seat of Czech filharmony has almost all features that the concert hall of 21st century needs. Iconic building, honourable location within the city center, close to Prague castle as well as to river Vltava and high-quality music hall with modern technologies. Rudolfinum is also czech national symbol and „the house of two muses“ – music and fine arts. Nevertheless, there is something missing. The currentseating capacity and the volume of concert hall are not enough big to satisfy the growing needs of visitors and musicians. The goal of this proposal is to test the building and then prove, that it is able to compete with intended new building, which could dramatically affect its further existence.

The proposal answers satisfies the real requirement put forward by city of Vantaa, which presented detailed building programme. Rather than one building, the neighbourhood of 3 houses, sharing spaces in between, was designed. The emphasis was placed on the social aspect ofproblematics. The senior was regarded as an individuality, as a resident of its own room, flat, house, neighbourhood, city – PLACE. Thus the whole complex is designed according to the strict hierarchy of spaces, ranging from private room throughcommon rooms for each floor, each house and whole complex to spaces which are shared with the site´s surround-ings.The elderly have the opporunity to choose exactly thatdegree of integration, which they prefer.

Těšnov is a place with rich history, but sadly, its presence is overshadowed by modern age - often unsignificant sediments. There was a city fortification going through the site long time ago. It was built to protect the city. Nowadays, the most frequented communication in the city is passing through this very place. It is north - south highway and unlike the ancient fortification, this road degrades and weakens the city. It´s essential to find a new identity for this important place.
