The Sensex regained the 39,000 mark amid volatility. The secondary indices outperformed the key benchmark indices. The bank's net profit rose 218.75% to Rs 3011.73 crore on a 9.37 increase in total income to Rs 72,850.78 crore in Q2 September 2019 over Q2 September 2018. The result was announced during market hours on 25 October 2019. IT major Infosys fell 16.96%. An anonymous whistleblowers accused the chief executive officer (CEO) Salil Parekh and chief financial officer (CFO) Nilanjan Roy of unethical practices. Infosys clarified that consistent with company's practice and whistleblower policy, complaints are presented to the audit committee of the board and thoroughly reviewed and appropriately dealt with. While dealing with these complaints, the company evaluates the requirements of various regulations including disclosures. As disclosed in the company's stock exchange filings made on 22 October 2019, the anonymous whistleblower complaints have been placed before the audit committee who has retained the law firm of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. to conduct an independent investigation. Before conclusion of the investigation of the generalized allegations in the complaints, a disclosure was not required. The disclosure made on 22 October 2019 was to respond to multiple media inquiries and reports. The company undertakes to continue making timely disclosures. Infosys added that it has been in touch with the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) regarding the anonymous whistleblower complaints (“Anonymous Complaints”) and has learnt that the SEC has initiated an investigation into this matter. The company will cooperate with the SEC's investigation. Also, Securities and Exchange Board of India ("Sebi") has requested additional information from the company concerning the anonymous complaints. The company will provide the information as per SEBI's request. The company is also aware of a securities class action lawsuit that has been filed against the Company in federal court in the United States based on the generalized allegations in the anonymous complaints. However, it failed to achieve government's target of being at 50th place. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, 23 October 2019, approved the increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for all mandated Rabi crops (the crop which are grown in winter and harvested in the spring) of 2019-20 to be marketed in Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2020-21. The increase in MSP for Rabi Crops for RMS 2020-21 is in line with the principle of fixing the MSPs at a level of at least 1.5 times of the all India weighted average cost of production (CoP), which was announced in the Union Budget 2018-19. This MSP policy whereby the farmers are assured of a minimum of 50% as margin of profit is one of the important and progressive steps towards doubling farmers' income by 2022 and improving their welfare substantively. Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) sees Indian economic growth rebounding t 10/25/2019 2/2 around 7% in the next financial year, supported by measures like monetary policy stimulus and corporate income tax cuts. The recent tax cuts, government's progress in addressing lingering weaknesses in the financial sector and measures to support growth sectors are seen as factors underpinning growth in the near term. Overseas, US durable goods orders tumbled by 1.1% in September after rising by a revised 0.3% in August, a report released by the Commerce Department on Thursday showed. US initial jobless claims dipped to 212,000 in the week ended October 19th, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week's revised level of 218,000, the Labor Department reported on Thursday. The European Central Bank (ECB) kept rates unchanged on Thursday. The central bank also kept its forward guidance unchanged, suggesting that its main interest rates will remain at their current or lower levels until there's strong evidence of a pick up in prices.
