The Zenna Sayre Urgent Care Fund The Zenna Sayre Urgent Care Fund is an annual $50,000 drive to help cover costs of medical supplies, veterinary costs and microchipping. The homeless and mistreated animals in Licking County rely on us to meet their most basic needs. Through the Zenna Sayre Urgent Care Fund, the LCHS will be able to serve these vulnerable creatures, provid-ing for their routine veterinary care, their specialized emergency needs, and their general health and well being. With an annual goal of $50,000, we can ensure that each and every animal in the shelter receives the care it so desperately needs and deserves. Help us help the animal – contant LCHS today!
2015 was another exhilarating year at the Licking County Humane Society with record-breaking adoptions, new programs and unexpected rescues. Bringing my social work background to bear on the Humane Society, I am thrilled to be able to help people while ensuring that our county’s animals are safe. You would be surprised how easy it is to help people by helping animals.
Take the Pawsitive Influence Pro-gram, which provided reduced adop-tion fees to seniors and those with special needs. My absolute favorite kind of adoption is a senior adoption because I know that the pet is going to be the center of that person’s world and vice versa. What an amazingly perfect and symbiotic relationship for both hu-man and animal. We have now kicked off the Pet Respite Program for seniors who need short term care for their pets because of a medical situation – again, assisting animals and people.
The organization tackled Rescue
62, which was so named because we rescued 62 dogs from a neglectful situ-ation and they lived on Route 62. This challenged us more so than any others we have encountered. All of the ani-mals were so sick. There were a couple times during that month that I ques-tioned whether we could really man-age so many ill animals. The staff and volunteers cried when we lost one and cheered when a parvo test was nega-tive. We were exhausted and frustrated but steadfast and committed. Thanks to the support of our community, our vol-unteers and our donors, LCHS found homes for all of the surviving dogs. Almost 60 families were matched with a loving, healthy, furry friend.
Other wonderful programs that ben-efit our community and our animals include the Pet Food Pantry for pet owners in need, dog obedience classes and low-cost spay/neuter clinics. In 2015, we also began spaying/neutering unowned cats in the community to
address the overpopulation problem. We are excited for 2016, when we will also be providing low-cost pet vaccine clinics to the community.
In 2015, LCHS provided homes for 1,334 animals through adoption. The Humane Society also continues to be a great place for families to visit, even if they aren’t in the market to adopt. Many visit our shelter regularly to spend time in the free-roaming cat rooms or to visit the canine center.
As we approach our 50th year, I am so honored and proud to be serving Licking County! I am looking forward to our anniversary celebration this summer and invite each of you to join us to help commemorate and celebrate the powerful pet/people relationships we have facilitated in the past 50 years. It is only through your support that these connections have been achieved!
Cordially,Lori Carlson
The Thornwood Legacy Society
Members of the Thornwood Society will help ensure that the new shelter isn’t an end, but a new beginning. It recognizes individuals and families who have invested in our future by making a planned gift in their wills, trusts or estate plans. As a Thornwood Society member you’ll receive a certificate and recognition at the shelter. The LCHS will also care for any pets you leave behind. Planned gifts allow our organization to build our endowment, which ensures that we’re able to help pets now and for years to come. Our organization has deeply rooted support and we believe the Thornwood Society is just one more illustration of the difference we’re making for pets. Everyone can leave something. A simple commitment of 5% of an insurance policy or retirement plan can safeguard your loved ones and provide for the care and safety of Licking County pets. There are many ways to leave a gift. It is not the business of Licking County Humane Society to guide your estate planning. All we ask is that you let us know if you desire to include us in your estate plan. No commitment of amount is necessary, only your intent to remember our special pets in your plans. Please notify us today if you’ve included the Licking County Hu-mane Society in your will, trust or estate plans so that we can invite you to the Thornwood Society. If you’d like further information about including the Licking Coun-ty Humane Society in your estate plans, call us today at 740-522-7297.
