place them among [his] finest and most personal achievements."

2KEITH VAUGHAN (1894-1982)Untitled (Green, Brown & Black) (c.1963)Gouache on paper20" x 16" (508mm x 406mm)Studio stamp lower left

'Untitled (Green, Brown & Black)' typifies the use of colour, shape and composition that dominated Vaughan'swork, both on paper and canvas, during the early 1960s.

"Necessity for compositional structure to run right through to the edges - disregarding identity of forms... not enough simply

to balance shapes within the area. This is a subjectively obvious fact of which I have only just become conscious in

words... the continuing lines are never obvious and are constantly interrupted by counter rhythms and thurst back and

forth in space."

Keith VaughanPublished in 'Keith Vaughan' (2012)

Provenance: Direct from the artists' estate

"I do not paint places as such - rather I try to paint the spirit of place. 'Inscape' is a place of reality. Though I am deeply inspired by physical and pictorial form, the truth I want to

convey is much more profound than this. I am more concerned with contemplation and sensational reality rather than with

representation and the merely visual."
