COUNCIL FINANCE HIGHLIGHTS

Why the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes Region, and

Susquehanna County Need Scouting

The following character attributes were discovered by Tufts University staff after a three year study of young men involved in Scouting as compared to their non-Scouting peers:

When asked what was “most important” to a Scout, their answer of “helping others” or “doing the right thing” varied greatly from non-Scouting answers of “being smart”, “ being the best” or “playing sports”.

Scouts are significantly more likely than non-Scouts to embrace other-oriented values, including “helping others” and “doing the right thing” - 20% More Likely.

Scouts are more likely to embrace positive social values such as Cheerfulness and Obedience than their non-Scout peers.

As a Scouts tenure in the program increases, they report higher levels of trust-worthiness, intentional self-regulation, hopeful future expectations, and better grades.
