Increase of threats as terrorism at sea and the piracy have been spiritus movens
of founding in 2007 Maritime Safety & Security LTD, the only company in Poland
involved into maritime security industry. Our core field of activities is training center
where you can take part in professional courses, compulsory for obtaining
employment as security guard onboard. The highest level of our services prove
introduced ISO system and possibility of conducting training courses in accordance
with STCW convention. For contents look after professional teaching staff having
experience in commanding hijacked vessels (captains of MV BELUGA NOMINATION,
MV SIRIUS STAR), what is more there are professional police negotiator,
psychologist specialized in PTSD (post trauma stress disorder) treatment and special
forces officers, fluent in tactical operations onboard with wide knowledge of piracy.
Last but not least is our most important however still developing element –
security services for vessels. Wide spectrum od experience of our vessel protection
team members let us adjust the offer for each specific client. Carefully selected
operators have rich tactical experience in special forces units and are able to work as
both armed guards and unarmed consultants.
The founder of company is LCDR (R) Sebastian Kalitowski, former team leader
of combat divers in Formoza unit and operational oficer of Polish Military Interligence.

9001:2008 for Anti piracy trainings and courses approved by STCW

Training Center Established in June of 2009 with the idea of creating new standards and quality
for security education issue. Our goal is to provide high quality courses conducted by
experts who have got experience by serving in naval special forces, commanding
vessels at sea or working as negotiator or psychologist. We hope that knowledge we

OUR EXPERTS - LCDR ( R ) Sebastian Kalitowski:
Founder and Chairman of MSS. Former team leader of combat divers
at Formoza (Polish naval special forces unit) and military intelligence
opererational officer;
- CPT. Piotr Budzynowski:
Commander of MV BELUGA NOMINATION— ship hijacked for 82
days. That was one of the most ruthless incidents;
- CPT. Marek Niski:
Commander of VLCC SIRIUS STAR hijacked in 2008. His brilliant ma
nagement helped in keeping low level of losses in the incident;
- CPT. ( R ) Robert Pawłowski:
Former member of Polish naval forces Formoza. Specialist in tactical
training and consulting;
- Waldemar Staniszewski:
Close protection expert and former parashutter of infantry.
Attendant of of courses related to crisis management and
combating terrorism. Professional negotiator in Police;
- LCDR ( R ) Krzysztof Suchomski:
Former naval special forces unit Formoza operator and commander of
special tasks section. Served in Special Operations Command and
Control Element in Afghanistan.
- PhD mjr Angelika Szymańska:

BASIC SAFETY TRAINING
STCW 95 Set of four courses compulsory for every seaman who works onboard. All of the
trainings are based on models issued by IMO 1.13, 1.19, 1.20, 1.21
Personal Survival Techniques—7 hours;
Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting—7 hours;
Elementary First Aid—7 hours;
Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities—7 hours;
After attendance and passing final tests, participants obtain international certificates
issued by Polish authority (Maritime Office).
Attednants are needed to wear sport clothes for excercises in the water.
*Certificate of Basic Safety Training STCW 95 is obligatory for all who want to issue
Seaman’s book (seafarer’s passport).
** We can shorten Basic Safety Training STCW to 4 days (28 hours).

Regarding with high amount of pirate attacks at sea, the need of security guards
has been increased. However, to make security guards credible and efficient
onboard, they have to gain specific knowledge about piracy and permitions letting
work at the vessel. The most essential document confirming preparation for work as
MarSec OPERATOR is SSO certificate.
Training is conducted in accordance with STCW. It’s programme is based on IMO
course 3.19 and lasts 16 hours. The most important issues what will be considered at
the classes are:
Ship Security Plan
Threat Idenrification, Recognition and Response
Ship Security Assessment
After full attendance and positive result of final tests participants will receive interna-
tional certificate issued by Polish authority (Maritime Office).
* To issue certificate, one photograph 35x45mm is needed.
Suplementally to SSO, there is added special 4 hours anti—piracy module by
international guidance BMP4 (Best Management Practices against Somali based
Piracy). Beside, course includes informationa about pirates equipment, tactics
and , case studies of hijacked vessels, ways of deterring pirate and management
clues in case of attack.
*Attendants are needed to provide one photo 35x45mm for certificate.

PORT FACILITY SECURITY OFFICER
Apart from ships, port facilities are becoming more and more dangerous as well.
Even though there are strict rules of working in harbor, some of people, cargo or the
other things can be very significant threats for water traffic. Easier access to weapons
and phenomenons as corruption are forcing port authorities to develope security
system in harbor. One of solutions is increasing amount of armed security guards.
Thus there is probability that operators may be required to have certification for
PFSO.
Training is conducted in accordance with STCW. It’s programme is based on IMO
course 3.21 and lasts 23 hours. The most important issues what will be considered at
the classes are:

After full attendance and positive result of final tests participants will receive
international certificate issued by Polish authority (Maritime Office).

COMPANY SECURITY OFFICER
Training is conducted in accordance with STCW. It’s programme is based on
IMO course 3.20 and lasts 18 hours. The most important issues what will be
considered at the classes are:
Maritime Security Policy
Ship Security Actions
Ship Security Assessment
After full attendance and positive result of final tests participants will receive
international certificate issued by Polish authority (Maritime Office).
*To issue certificate, one photograph 35x45mm is needed.
The most important person who’s task is security management both at the
headquarter of company and at the vessels is CSO. To get employs at this chair,
there is needed special certification confirming preperation to take responsibility for
all the fleet in the company.

There are more and more Private Military Companies which demand from their
operators knowledge of operating two important for communication devices. Those
are VHF. It is crucial for vessel protection team. Thanks to that device team leader
can command the members and all of are in touch.
Course takes one whole training day. Trainer is accredited by Royal Yachting
Association. After the courses attendants will obtain international certificates
issued by above mentioned RYA.

VESSEL PROTECTION TEAM
OPERATIONS ON THE BOARD
Tactical activities for all who have never worked onboard may be very complex.
Although long hours spent at different tactical trainings in military, police or training
centers are very useful, MarSec OPERATORS should get to known with new
environment what is the vessel to be able to use their whole potential at work.
Course is prepared by Maritime Safety & Security experts who are the former
operators in naval special forces unit Formoza and GROM. Training takes 8 hours
and is conducted onboard of the ship > 500 BRT. Main contents are:
Vessel construction usage for tactical activities onboard
Specification and job description of Vessel Protection Team
Ship Security during entering the High Rish Area
Examples of Rules of Engagement for Vessel Protection Teams
After the course attendants will obtain certificates of taking part in the course.
*All attendants are needed to bring their own tactical wear and weapon reproductions.

EXTRAORDINARY SERVICES
Medical certificate ENG1: is compulsory for all
who need to issue seaman’s book. To obtain this
certificate attendants ale obligated to bring results
of following examinations or do it in Szczecin:
Blood examination
ESR
CBC
Glucose level
Urinalysis
Chest X Ray
ECG
Yellow fever Vaccination: this sickness is very
common at the region of high risk area. More and
more security companies expect this kind of
vaccination

OUR BASE
Camping Marina PTTK is a four star venue situated at the lakeside in
Polish city Szczecin where Maritime Safety & Security will conduct MarSec
OPERATOR courses. Distance from railway station is about 8 kilometers,
where it is possible to take train or bus to airports in Berlin.
ACCOMMODATION
Venue offers for attendants accommodation in well done bungalows
prepared for all seasons hosting. There are bathrooms and toilets in the
rooms and wifi connection. At the place there is restaurant where there
will be given food.
