All of us at INTERSCHALT are proud that our Maritime Education & Train-ing Center MET is in operation since September 2007. We had several hundred candidates who successfully completed a variety of courses. Dur-ing that period of time we also added new components and trainings to our portfolio. A large number of well known shipping companies count to our customers and together we con-tribute to an increase of safety on the open sea.In late summer 2008 we put our newly developed engine control room into operation. With that facility we are now able to conduct combined courses for nautical and technical license holders together exercising “Ship Team Management”.In addition we now also offer general courses like “Maritime Basic Know-ledge” and “Basic Ship Technology” for a variety of shore based specia-lists without a maritime background.It is our pleasure to welcome you and your team at MET attending our trai-ning.

Improving shiphandling and manoeuvring skills is sub-stantial for professional mariners. Training and exercising these skills in extreme, uncommon but realistic scenarios is of extreme importance and exclusively practicable in a simulator. Situation based training regarding engine failures is not only essential for a safe shipoperation. Nowadays, the interconnections between the Engine and Deck Depart-ment, the forming and establishing of well communication links are major factors for solving problems and protec-ting the human life, environment and vessel. Due to these reasons, an Engine Team Management Training in combi-nation with a Bridge Team Management Training Course during a running simulation is the key element of an effec-tive management group to improve safe and secure ope-rations of a vessel.

In compliance with the international convention SOLAS, merchant vessels are required to carry VDRs for incident investigation.
