MARITIME COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM FORCOASTAL RADIO SERVICES (IHM-CRS)
Improve communication between vessels and coastal radio services byoptimizing the handling of communication in the Coastal RadioCommunications Centre.
IHM offers top-of-the-line radio communication systems for quality-conscious organisations and companies. IHM-CRS
is the communications gateway between vessels and coastal radio services, and provides maritime communication for
ship-to-ship, ship-to-shore and SAR operations (communication between boats, helicopters, land mobile units, etc.)
The IHM-CRS application software offers interconnection possibilities between MF/HF, VHF and INMARSAT
communication radio equipment in order for the system to obtain maximum radio coverage.
The system provides a communications platform enabling access to all the resources of your coastal radio network
from one single point via a straightforward user interface designed in collaboration with other users of this type of
system.
The communications switch hardware is based on the COM4500MCS
Maritime Communications Switch – a modular-designed switch providing
the gateway interconnect functionality to
• operator terminals (local as well as remote),
• radio base stations (local as well as remote) and
• telephone lines (PABX/PSTN) within the system.
The communications switch is controlled by the
IHM-CGS application software.

The software application platform is designed toenable operators to carry out all the tasks provided ina Coastal Radio Network.
The IHM-CRS communication software application is tailored to meet the
communication control requirements essential for communication within coastguard
systems.
All added applications such as voice communication, DSC calling, NAVTEX message
handling and MSI transmission are tailored to meet the individual operator’s preferred
demands with respect to the system.
Furthermore, the system can be equipped with call-taking / call-dispatch telephone
facilities to and from the PABX/PSTN telephone network. This facility can be controlled
by either all or a limited number of call centre operators.
Telephone calls, incoming as well as outgoing, can be transferred from one operator to
other operators (transfer facility) or patched through a radio connection to the vessel
for which the incoming call is intended (telephone patch facility).
Set-up of the operator’s tasks (control of radio and/or telephone lines) can either be
performed locally on the operator’s terminal by authorized personnel, or remotely by a
supervisor.
In order for the system to provide extended facilities for the coastguard in connection
with SAR operations, it can be equipped with an extension of the radio coverage area
either by implementing a retransmission facility or by implementing a diversity facility
for the radio base stations.
The retransmission facility is able to establish retransmission through one or a number
of radio base stations in a retransmission/cross-connection configuration.
By using this facility, a signal received through one radio base station can be
retransmitted through the remaining radio base stations within the system.
The diversity facility can be used to pick the signal with the highest signal strength from
all signals received through the radio base stations within the group.
The facility can either be controlled automatically or switched on manually in the event
of, for example, SAR operations.

The COM4500MCS Voice Communications Switch controlled by the IHM-CRS
application software is modular - it can grow with your requirements, from a small,
single site system to a nationwide network including a large number of radio base
stations, telephone lines or operator consoles.
The COM4500MCS provides interconnection possibilities for:
• Locally or remotely installed operator terminals interconnected to the switch
through VoIP circuits established through a LAN/WAN or an Internet connection.
• Connection to a variety of types (VHF/MF/HF) and brands of radio base stations
which can be installed locally or remotely controlled through VoIP connections
(established through a LAN/WAN or Internet connection), a 4-wire telephone
line, a digital radio link/an optical fibre system or a V-SAT connection.
• Telephone gateway facilities making it possible for operators to receive incoming
or initiate outgoing telephone calls.
The telephone gateway solution provides possibilities for handling calls to the
following types of telephone circuits:
o Telephone lines PABX or PSTN
o Analogue
o ISDN2
o ISDN30
o and more
- all in one mixture
COM4500MSC, with up to64 interface connections
