Football

The Marist Canberra Football Club (MCFC) finished another season with

thirty teams participating in the Junior League Competition and two

teams in the Premier League under our affiliation with Cooma Tigers

Football Club.

In spite of a few challenges this year the 2012 Committee has coordinated

the smooth functioning of registrations, rosters, grounds, referees and

fundraising to complete a very successful season. The Club could not

function without their ongoing support and wonderful dedication!

Thank you also to Rick Sidorko, Chris Morrissey and Matthew Egan­

Richards for their involvement with the Club.

Our teams had some great performances. The U13/2 Blue, UlS/2 Gold

and U18/3 Royal teams took out their respective championships, while

the U13/1 team were runners up.

Of course, there would be no teams if not for the dedication and

commitment of our coaches and managers, who give their time

and energy every week. Their efforts not only help the boys grow in

skill, but give them fantastic memories to carry through their lives.

Congratulations to Philip Moufarrige and Shane Hutchison on their

respective Coach of the Year awards.

Although smaller in number this year, our referees made up for it

with their enthusiasm and commitment to making the game fair and

enjoyable for all. I had many comments throughout the season from

both Marist and opposition parents about the high quality of our refs. I

encourage you all to continue into next season.

Many of our teams took part in other tournaments, including the Kanga

Cup and Cowra and Young district carnivals. These experiences provide

the boys with the opportunity to not only showcase our Club but make

friendships and most importantly have fun! The MARSEC Shield was

hotly contested this year, ending in a draw, meaning Marist retains the

shield.

The annual dinner was back again this year and was a great success, with

the 'Titanic' theme well supported and guests enjoying a fun evening.

Fundraising went well with the chocolates and 'Entertainment' books

providing additional funds for the Club.

The Club was able to bring in new strips this year thanks to sponsorship

Twenty-two boys spent over two weeks in Paris and the UK as part of from Server Racks Australia. They have brought a more modern look to

the UK Football Tour, and by all accounts the boys had experiences that the Club and I have received positive endorsement from players and

they can draw upon into the future (see photos). parents to this effect.

The school's decision not to be part of the Premier League in 2013

means our partnership with the Cooma Tigers Football Club has ended.

I would like to thank Harry Hovasapian and the Cooma Tigers for their

support in all areas of football over the past three years.

And finally, to the players and their families! I hope you have all had an

enjoyable season, learnt some new skills, made some new friends and

had fun along the way. I look forward to seeing you again next year to

continue the success of the MCFC and play the wonderful game that

is football!
