From the PrincipalHappy Waitangi Day. I hope that you all had a great day reflecting on the past and the future as one country.
This week we received our Scholarship results from 2019. Scholarship exams challenge our young women to demonstrate a high level of critical thinking and abstraction while being able to integrate prior learning and ideas into complex situations.
Marist College had eight young women achieve Scholarships in the subjects of Biology, Drama, and Painting. Each receives the recognition of being one of the top academic achievers. Only 3% of all New Zealand students achieve a scholarship in any subject area, as well as a monetary reward for their hard work.
Congratulations ladies. I look forward to recognising your achievement at next week’s Academic Assembly and look forward to seeing our 2020 Year 12 and 13 students taking up the Scholarship challenge.

Well done ladies.
On January 20th, before school officially opened to students for 2020, a group of enthusiastic new Year 12 students assembled at 8.30am in the Food Technology room.
They were tidily presented in uniform, but not the Marist school uniform. Instead these students were wearing the black and white standard attire of café staff, and their purpose at school was to train in customer service and barista skills.
13 students completed the programme over three days at school, gaining credits in customer service, teamwork, personal presentation, and coffee making. Following successful completion of the course, each student will undertake five x four-hour shifts of work experience at different cafes around Auckland, during weekends this term. Congratulations on a very successful course girls, and we look forward to seeing you in our local cafes soon!
