CREATIVITY: ARE YOU USING ARTS, CULTURE,MEDIA AND SOCIAL MEDIA TO POPULARISE THE
ISSUES?
Media:
Eden District Municipalitys Communication Unit
engaged with all local media including the localradio for marketing and reporting.
Pamphlets and posters were distributed at schools,clinics, churches and other community facilities.
Ward committee members were utilised to holdinformation sessions in their wards.
Arts & culture:
A local and national drama (containing hiddenmessages of the specific topics) were performed atthe events;
A local group, namely Chronics, municipal talentwinners, as well as a church brigade performed atthe opening ceremony.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Monitoring: Daily monitoring according to the set time frames;
Section meetings was a platform wherebychallenges could be discussed and managed;
Regular reports.

WHAT RESULTS HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED?
The rights of the abused, as well as other general information reached the communities in most of thewards;
Commitment of community members during the campaign
Knowledge and confidence among community members
Participants took ownership of the programme;
A positive competitive spirit was fostered at the District competition; Various groups got an opportunity to showcase their talents;
Civil Society, Government Departments, local Government as well as the Business sector engaged towardsa common programme;

IMPACT (BASED ON THE SADC PROTOCOLTARGETS)
Article 14 :Education and Training: Confidence and empowerment of Young people have been
enhanced. Behavioural change is possible through this programme.
Article 20-25 :Gender Based Violence: communities were informed about their rights;
Article 27: HIV and AIDS: This programme has promoted the objectives of the NSP of SA.

SUSTAINABILITY AND REPLICATION
It is envisaged that this programme beexpanded in our own region to involvemore stakeholders;
Collaboration with GovernmentDepartments will ensure pooling ofresources, greater impact and long-
term sustainability;
This programme has the potential tobe duplicated in other districtMunicipalities ending with a Provincialchampion;
Duplication and repetition of this
programme will ensure more peoplebecoming involved and informed.

LESSONS LEARNED
The programme should be rolled out as a 365 days intervention which is in line with
the
national gender framework
A more progressive marketing and communication strategy;
Sourcing of external financial contributions at an earlier stage;
A more robust engagement with the Business sector; Winners to be trained as Peer Educators;
Greater commitment from the local Municipalities.
