In this months issue (Page 38) we feature photos taken for Project Unbreakable. This project is basically about survivors of rape and

other forms of sexual assault. Survivors hold posters of what their attacker said to them before assaulting them.

We all know about the recent gang rape incident, that was captured on video, of a 17-year-old girl, being raped by a group of men

and boys aged between 14 and 37. The girl had gone missing on the 25th of March 2012, when police rescued her (after hearing

about a tape circulating in Soweto) from Doornkop near Johannesburg.

Just as social networks, newspapers and channels were all talking about that, another rape case surfaced. A mentally ill, 17-year-old

boy, was raped by a woman and a teenager on 21 April 2012. It then seemed that the media had almost forgotten about the gangrape case and the focus was only on this boy.

But what happens to the rape victims once the papers have stopped writing, the #RapeVideo has stopped trending on Twitter and the

police have done their bit? Are there ways for these victims to heal from the psychological impact of the crime committed against

them?

We love Project Unbreakable and think its a truly great way to confront issues like rape and sexual assault.
