The theme this year is Loneliness: The solution in Community, a theme which was chosen before COVID-19. Were unable to have our Open Day to celebrate Neighbourhood House Week however we believe that its times like this that we need our community. To help us celebrate Neighbourhood House Week, we would like you to tell us what you enjoy about being part of the community at the Centre - is it your learning journey or connecting and making new friends? Please email your thoughts to us at [email protected] and include a photo or picture. We would love to include your story in future newsletters and on our Facebook page. All contributions will be entered into a competition for a $50 Coles Myer voucher. Winning entries (3) will be announced after the Queens Birthday Long Weekend in June. It helps lower the harmful effects of the stress hormone cortisolon your body. It lowers your heart rate. It helps lower your blood pressure. It helps you cope with the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It helps reduce stress and anxiety by calming you down. It helps release muscle tension It helps clear the mind to increase cognitive function. Hello from MNCC staff

Neighbourhood House Week will run from Friday 8 May - Friday 15 May. The theme this year is Loneliness: The solution in Community, a theme which was chosen before COVID-19.

We’re unable to have our Open Day to celebrate Neighbourhood House Week however we believe that it’s times like this that we need our community. Recipe of the Week

Tina has sent us another scrumptious recipe to try. We hope you enjoy it!

Quick Stir-Fried Beef with Spring Onion

Ingredients 240g Beef Porterhouse 4 cloves garlic, sliced 2 tbsp oil 1.5 tbsp soy sauce 2 tsp sesame oil 4 spring onions, sliced Salt to taste

Marinade: 2 tsp Shao-Shing wine (Chinese wine) or dry sherry 2 tsp oil (vegetable/peanut or whatever you prefer) 6 pinches crushed black pepper 2 tsp cold water 2 tsp cornstarch 6 pinches baking powder

Method: 1. Mix marinade ingredients together in a bowl 2. Trim the porterhouse steak and slice paper-thin, then marinate for 30 minutes 3. Heat a frying pan, add 1.5 tbsp oil and bring it to smoking temperature 4. Add beef along with marinade and garlic, and toss (without breaking up meat) for approx 20 seconds only - beef will continue to cook 5. Splash soy sauce over the beef and toss 6. Transfer the beef into a bowl - set aside

7. Add remaining oil in the same fry pan, add spring onions and stir for 5 secsonds on high heat 7. Remove the pan from the heat and return beef to the pan 8. Add sesame oil and toss Your dish is now ready to be served. Bon Appetite!

Creative Fun

Salt Dough recipe for hand print.

You will need

250g plain flour 125g table salt 125ml warm water Method Preheat oven to its lowest setting and line a baking sheet with baking parchment. Mix together the flour and salt, then stir in the warm water a little bit at a time until it forms a dough. Move the dough onto a lightly floured surface, and finish kneading it, until it becomes smooth. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin. Make a handprint by pressing your child’s hands into the dough. You can also do a footprint. Place your creation on the baking sheet and bake for 3-4 hours or until solid . Leave to cool and then decorate with paint and / or glitter.

Autumn is here and the leaves are falling. Pooh and Piglet look like they’re

having fun with the leaves. Colour in Pooh and Piglet and ask mum or dad to

take a photo of your colouring to send to us.

Mini Chefs is going online Online cooking sessions with Neil start on 7 May. Parent supervision is required during the sessions. Suitable for 6 - 12 year olds.
