This promenade, stretching from the footbridge to the dock, resembles a ribbon which weaves these spaces to each other. Covered by the same material over its length, it allows for the occasional passage of vehicules. 3. Imbricaon of Vegetal and Mineral The idea is to highlight the dichotomy between the embankments of Lent and Tabor, which possess very different atmospheres. As such, the historical building front is underscored by a wide slope, reminis- cent of the ramparts which have all but disappeared, upon which alternate mineral zones and planted spaces. The Tabor hillside is transformed into an arboretum, accessible to strollers, and offers a varied vegetal palee in terms of essences and strata. This replanta- on implements itself in phases in such a manner as to conserve the wooded aspect of the riverbank. Only the esplanade at the foot of the bridge and the ers form mineral surfaces : the two spaces which assemble people. 2. Overview and Master Plan

General Plan 1/1000

1. A Promenade as Guiding Idea

This concerns the proposal of varying activities and ambiences the length of the embankments : inclines, places, ponds, planted patios, etc.The federating element of these places is the wide promenade for pedestrians and cyclists, which crosses and serves the different areas. This promenade, stretching from the footbridge to the dock, resembles a ribbon which weaves these spaces to each other. Covered by the same material over its length, it allows for the occasional passage of vehicules.

3. Imbrication of Vegetal and Mineral

The idea is to highlight the dichotomy between the embankments of Lent and Tabor, which possess very different atmospheres. As such, the historical building front is underscored by a wide slope, reminis-cent of the ramparts which have all but disappeared, upon which alternate mineral zones and planted spaces. The Tabor hillside is transformed into an arboretum, accessible to strollers, and offers a varied vegetal palette in terms of essences and strata. This replanta-tion implements itself in phases in such a manner as to conserve the wooded aspect of the riverbank.Only the esplanade at the foot of the bridge and the tiers form mineral surfaces : the two spaces which assemble people.

2. New Relations with the Water

Turning the city and its inhabitants towards the Drava occurs through a stronger contact with the river. Today, the embank-ments propose few unique spaces where one may approach and even touch the water.New installations are thus proposed, in the form of games, rafts, floating stages and gardens. Wood is the primary material used in the design of these waterscapes.

4. Alternance of Lively and Calm Spaces New places emerge to enrich the existing diversity of activities :

Lively Places :

_Lent’s gateways, on both sides of the ramparts, are marked by two grassy mounds, accompanied by gardens on the surface of the water. These unsymmetrical mounds propose a steep incline which contracts the space on the side of the ramparts, sym-bolising the gateway effect, while the second incline descends in a soft grade to-wards the Drava. The water garden at the eastern gate is linked to a nearby children’s playground and transforms itself into a water route. This space also becomes one of open-air projections upon nightfall.

_Lent’s central space is composed of a series of four plots : the terraces of Lent Square enlarge themselves and are shaded by trellises. Lent Square’s plaza recovers its square hold by a new ground covering, and is surrounded by a building front to the north, a line of trees to the west, and the sunken plaza also on the west border. The difference of levels of the sunken plaza is reinforced by a pond. The latter cre-ates a visual game, in line with the Drava found in the background, and makes a historic wink a the ancient hold of the wider Drava.

_An esplanade marks the entry onto the embankments from Tabor, and tiers are created in order to reunite the numerous spectators during spectacles linked to the river (fireworks, water festivities etc.)

Calm Spaces :

_Planted patios in front of small shops and habitations to the east of Lent, the length of the building arches._The promenade in the fields, to the west of the site_The path in Tabor’s hillside, which has become an arboretum_The promenade in the orchard, in front of the Faculty of Medecine
