My coaching philosophy ties-in my experience as a player in Venezuela, the USA, the UK, Italy and Spain, as well as my accredited coaching work, which includes licenses from the Venezuelan and American soccer federations (FVF and USSF) and NSCAA certificates. Withal my philosophy does not consist on just training, but rather building a family of players! In order to have a successful team, each player must have a strong relationship with their teammates, coach, and the team staff. This relationship has to be built upon respect and trust. My objective is to know the player enough to identify strengths and weaknesses, allowing for me to then outline a path for improvement.

My philosophy goes hand-in-hand with the players development, I teach every player how to play at least two positions in the field. This helps the players develop different skills and knowing how to react to a different situation. Looking at soccer today, every player has to be multifunctional in the field; players defend and attack together, running up and down the field as a unit. Being proficient with two positions will be of long-term benefit to the player’s career. Coaches implement different strategies, different playing styles, or different formations, and having field versatility will allow the player to adapt to most coaches at higher levels of soccer (High School, College, Professional, etc.).

Competition is part of my philosophy; I am true believer that you play as well as you practice. In other words, players that excel during the week, most likely excel during the weekend. I use competition, during practice, to match the intensity of the games, assess the performance of the players, and select the lineup. This means all spots are “up-for-grabs” on a weekly basis and the weekend lineup will depend on the week’s performance.

During my career, I have had the opportunity of seeing professional coaches prepare teams to their best, winning championships, league titles and even ascending between divisions. On my philosophy of coaching my team will prepare at its highest level, working as a team defensively and offensively. We will defend as a team, as a unit in no longer that 35 meter-block, which will move side to side, pressing at the right moment on the right areas. If one player misses, he will feel the support of the remaining ten. Our offense will hold the ball while looking for the precise moment to penetrate the defense and score. I will prepare my team to be creative with space, to move the ball fast from side to side, and to be killer players on one vs. one. My goalies will perform, on foot, as well as any of the field players. His distribution will start our offensive strategy and he will be the voice in command of our defensive structure. My defenders will be known for their presence. My center backs will be solid, but also good transitioning the ball. My fullbacks will be running the entire sideline creating unpredictable opportunities on the offensive. My center midfielders will play box-to-box, understanding how to control the timing and rhythms of the game. My forwards will master their finishing; they will become predators in the box.

Finally, my goal is to make the players understand that soccer is a team sport. A sport in which the key to success lies in the chemistry of the team and not the actions of a single player. My personal goals are to be the coach of the team, and a mentor for each individual.
