COMMUNITY NEWSBy Randy Ecklund

Making The Most Of It

Challenging times have been had aswe all attempt to navigate safely

through our ever-changing world. As good as it may feel to return to

a few of our pre-COVID-19 routines, please keep in mind that there tends to be a false sense of virus-safety out there, so always remember to remainhealth cautious.

Our community management teams at the North, South and West offi ces couldn’t help but notice an impressive increase in the number of Design Review Improvement Request sub-mittals these past few months. One gets the sense that many of you spent

considerable time in your yards, and “seizing the moment” to take care of those special projects you may have had in mind for a while. Th anks for taking the time to submit and your patience as we continually work through the volumes of submittals.

As of this writing there are still a few of our community open space amenities that remain closed for health and safety reasons, so please bear with us as we work through certain sanctions. As always, a goodplace to check on any changes to our recreational or social off erings would be Summerlink.com.

Summerlin ’s Newest Development, Redpoint Square, Begins To Take Shape

COMMUNITY DEVELOPER UPDATETh e Howard Hughes Corporation®

®

Summerlin® is expanding westward and developing the area north of Th e Vistas village and adjacent to the 215 Beltway. Th is area of Summerlin West is organized into distinct neighborhood character districts that incorporate a variety of traditional and compact residential housing types, a blend of contemporary and Spanish architecture, and a more interconnected public realm than ever before. Th is new approach to the land plan allows for more hous-ing options and fl exibility with neighborhood designs in an area with signifi cant topographical changes.

Th e fi rst district, Redpoint Square, is beginning to takeshape. North of Far Hills Avenue and west of the 215Beltway, Redpoint Square already boasts its fi rst neighbor-hood now selling, Moro Rock by Richmond American Homes, off ering two duet townhome models priced from the high $200,000s. According to Julie Cleaver, SVP – Planning & Design, Summerlin, this is the next chapter in the community’s 30-year history as one of the country’s premier and top-sellingmaster plans. “Summerlin West encompasses the majority of the com-munity’s remaining acreage and is planned as an exciting and diverse mix of residential off erings, mixed-use offi ce and retail developments and the community’s signature parks, arroyos, open space and trails,” said Cleaver.

“Current plans call for a mix of districts home to multipleneighborhoods, and timing will be market-driven. As always, development plans will remain nimble and fl exible to ensure we can respond quickly and appropriately to an ever-changing economy as well as changing consumer preferences. Regardless, we will always stay true to the Summerlin brand of creating a premier place to live, work, play and learn with abundant opportunities to enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle.” Situated on elevated topography overlooking the valley, the Summerlin West area boasts an elevation that is more than 4,550 feet above sea level at its highest point, creat-ing an abundance of vantage points and sweeping vistas. Summerlin’s higher elevations, which deliver temperatures up to fi ve degrees cooler than the Strip, support a wide variety of native vegetation, a characteristic indicative of the community given its location along the valley’s elevated western rim.

According to Cleaver, plans for Summerlin West call for several schools, a grand park and an abundance of open space – all features typical of the community. “Perhaps the greatest distinction of Summerlin West will be its greater diversity of home products that will make the area truly multi-generational,” she said. “Summerlin West will boast a greater volume of smaller and attached home products that encourage a more experiential lifestyle and are well suited for fi rst-time homebuyers, Millennials and retirees who prefer smaller-footprint living. At the same time, Summer-lin West will feature many single-family neighborhoods in a variety of sizes and price points, along with estates and luxury living opportunities. Th e goal is to create a truly diverse region of the community that will resonate with a wide variety of homebuyers seeking a 21st-century lifestyle.” In total, Summerlin currently off ers more than 160 fl oor plans in 34 neighborhoods throughout nine distinct villages. Homes are available in a variety of styles – from single-family homes to townhomes, priced from the high $200,000s to more than $1 million. For information on all actively selling neighborhoods, visit Summerlin.com. Before you visit, call the builders to check on hours of operation. Phone numb-ers for each neighborhood are on Summerlin.com. While appointments are not required, they are encouraged.

WATER CONNECTIONSouthern Nevada Water Authority

Summer’s here and the temperature is going up, up, and up—which means now is a perfect time for you to take steps to maintain a healthy, vibrant landscape in the toasty-hot weeks and months ahead.

If you still have grass in your landscape, the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) recommends using the “cycle and soak” method by scheduling your sprinklers to water in three short cycles, an hour apart, for only about three or four minutes. Th is provides enough water for yourlawn while giving the soil time to absorb it and reducing the potential for water waste.

With drip irrigation, run your system in a single cycle of30 to 90 minutes, three days a week, for an effi cient deep-root watering. Over-watering plants and shrubs can do

more harm than good; experts agree most drought-tolerant plants can thrive when watered on a three-day a week schedule, even during the hottest days of summer.

And remember, mandatory summer watering restrictionsin eff ect through August 31 prohibit sprinkler irrigation between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily, to avoid potential water loss to high mid-day temperatures and hot winds. In add-ition, all landscape watering—both via sprinkler and drip systems—is prohibited on Sundays all year. For more information about WSL and other landscape care tips, visit snwa.com.
