    On February 24 theA.I.R.C. hosted its first of manyCultural Connections event at FranklinElementary school in partnership withthe Wausau Area Mutual Hmong

    Association. The night began with anintroduction of the Hmong culture andhistory. A Hmong dance troupe

    performed and engaged the audience intraditional and contemporary danceand song. This was followed with aHmong community Clan leader whospoke and performed with threedifferent traditional Hmonginstruments. A.I.R.C. Director DylanPrescott then spoke to the audienceabout Native culture and dancing withover 10 guest dancers representing

    all Wisconsin tribes. We wouldlike to thank Billy Ray andKatherine Daniels, MistyCurleyhair, Larry Walker, AmosGauthier, Travoi Two Bears, theWausau School District, FranklinElementary, Peter Yang, theWausau Area Hmong MutualAssociation, the dancers, MoleLake Sokaogon Chippewa and allthe attendees.

    Tee ClassicA frosty thank you to The

    Neighbors Place for invitingA.I.R.C. back for another year ofminiature golf on the snow. Our

    Junior Youth spent three weeksmaking the feathers for the holedecoration. Hot chocolate withHershey Kisses kept our golfers

    warm and chocolate lovershappy! Thank you to our

    volunteers Christian, Josh andWendell for braving the coldwith us for a good cause! Welook forward to participating

    again next winter!

    Bingo Fundraiser

    huge success!Family Bingo night was asuccess! We had a greatturnout and everyone enjoyedthe games and fellowship.

    This was a great opportunityfor the Native community toget together and spend sometime getting to know oneanother. The Indian Center

    will be having more familynights like this and hope to seeit grow. Jolene Stoner was the

    big winner of the night with astay at the Lac Du FlambeauCasino. The Indian Centerwould like to thank everyonewho donated prizes. A bigthank you to Fawne Teller,Oneida Bingo Manager, whodonated the bingo sheets,

    bingo cards and other bingomerchandise. With supportlike this, we are able to havesuccessful fundraisers andkeep The CenteropenThank you for yoursupport Fawne!

    Jolene Stoner won the hotelstay at A.I.R.C. Bingo andgave it to her friend Coral Foxfor her birthday!

    Junior YouthThe A.I.R.C. Learning Centerwould like to welcome the newestmembers of the Jr. youth group,Hunter, Lakota and Alexia. They

    jointed us a few weeks ago andhave been attending tutoring.

    Hunter and Lakota also attenddrumming on Tuesday nights withthe rest of the group.The Jr. youth were very busy thismonth helping The Center makedecorations for events such asFamily Bingo Night and the Ice

    Tee Classic. The Jr. Youth havebeen spending some time outdoors,enjoying the warm winter

    weather. They took a walkdowntown to the ice cream shopand went to the 400 Block to slidedown the snow slide that was builtduring Winterfest. The Jr. Youthalso had a movie night and acouple of game nights.B-I-N-G-O! Shouted almost adozen kids at the A.I.R.C. firstFamily Bingo Night. The Jr. youth

    enjoyed a parent free night ofnachos and hot dogs, Bingo andprizes in their very own BingoHall. While having a great time,they helped raise nearly $30.00 forThe Center. Thank you kids!JSenior YouthThe Senior Youth have been very

    busy the past month. They raised$625 for the Special Olympics andparticipated in the Polar Plunge on

    Feb. 25. The teamconsisted of 11 plungers andwe had a lot of fun jumpingin the freezing cold water.

    The Sr. Youth also held a

    bake sale during FamilyBingo Night and had a candystand at the CulturalConnections event on Feb. 24.

    The money the youth raised is for thetrip they will be taking the second weekin March. They are heading toWisconsin Dells to attend theWisconsin Teen Dating Summit.This statewide Summit brings together

    a diverse group of teens and adults tolearn how to prevent teen dating andsexual violence and what to do if ithappens. The youth did an awesome

    job staying focused on getting the fundstogether to attend.DrummingDrumming continues to take place onTuesday nights at 4:30 pm. The groupis working on their hand drums. Ifanyone is interested in making a handdrum, there are still materials available.Contact Dylan if you would like toattend drumming or would like tocome in and make a hand drum.

    WomensWellness News

    The United Native

    Womens Society (UNWS)has been meeting regularlysince last April. The women inthis group have createdpositive bonds with one andother and they continue to dogreat things for The Centerand are getting involved in thecommunity. They will beholding a meet and greet brunchin April. Watch for that in the

    upcoming newsletter.

    In the worksThe Womens WellnessProgram will be starting a bookclub in April. If interested inparticipating please contactJoey @ 715-845-9754. Thebook club will be focusing onNative American Authors.

    Suggestions are alwayswelcome!March 7 the UNWS will be

    attending The Vagina Monologues in

    Madison. The Vagina Monologuesaremade up of a varying number ofmonologues read by differentwomen. Arecurring themethroughout the piece is the vagina as

    a tool of female empowerment, andthe ultimate embodiment of

    individuality.April 28 The UNWS will be

    volunteering at the MS Walk here inWausau. If interested in participatingin the walk or volunteering contactJoey

    Project Hourwill be returning in

    April where we will be working on

    shawls, quilts, and moccasins. Wewill also have some beading projectsavailable.

    The American Indian Resource Center of Marathon County celebrates our first anniversary ofoperations this month! We are incredibly grateful for themany donors, volunteers, friends, support and good wisheswe have received over the past 12 months. The A.I.R.C.Board of Directors has worked hard to keep the Centeropen and if it wasnt for all the community support,donations, collaborations, and dedication, we couldnt havehad the success we did. We are looking forward to the newyear of operations and continuing to create awareness ofour culture while extending programing and services.Thank you for an exciting first year! We know that as we

    continue to grow, so will our successes and we couldnt have done it without YOU! Please
