Our health and well-ness theme last monthturned out great! ThePre-Ks stayed en-gaged with the newcenters. They usedtheir problem solvingskills and practicedtheir creativity in thehair salon, and tookpart in creative roleplay while in the doc-tors office. Our Germ

awareness day wasenlightening for a lot ofus, as we discovered, through a black light, how many germs reallystay on our hands!

As Kindergarten ap-proaches for some ofthe pre-ks, you may

have noticed your childstarting to show an in-terest in numeracy andpre-literature. Althoughour main focus in Pre-Kis not heavily based onthese skills, they arestill being encouraged.

In Pre-Kindergartenour mission and focusis to create a stimulat-ing play-based environ-

ment, where curiosityand exploring is en-couraged. Throughblock building, roleplay, and centers, yourchild is in fact workingon their numeracy andpre-literature skills, asthey are continuallyproblem solving, count-

This month we will beactively using our im-aginations through

nursery rhymes andfairy tales! Puppetshows, characteriza-tion, and role-playing,are a few techniqueswe will be explor-ing. Through theseskills your child will

Pre-K calendar I havelisted what Fairy Talewe will be focusing onfor the week. A goodway to reinforce thesestories is to see if yourchild can re-tell thefairy tale to you before

What are the Pre-ks doing for Lent

Show and Share Schedule for March

    Page 2

Because Lent is a time to give of ourselves there areseveral actions we will be doing throughout the Lentenseason. As a whole, our school is participating in afundraising project for Lent, which goes towards the Ho-ly Childhood Association. Each classroom was given acountry to raise money for; the pre-ks and their bigbuddies are contributing their donations to India andPapua New Guinea. Some of the upcoming school widefundraising events so far include: hot dog day, a bottledrive, and teacher makeovers. If your child would like tobring a donation to put towards A teacher makeoverthey are welcome to. The male and female with themost votes in the end will be the one who takes on the

student led transformation. If you would like to contrib-ute to our bottle drive, we ask that you start collecting your empties which will bebrought to the school on a later date. If you have a truck, and are interested inhelping out with the bottle drive please come talk to me for details. As a class, wewill be doing our own fundraising events, as we need to raise 250 dollars perclassroom to reach our school goal of $4,000 . Stay posted for more details in thenear future!

This is just a reminder that we will be having our FamilyDay on the 2nd this month. We have been having an ex-cellent turn out for our Family Days, so I would like tothank you for that. Almost everyone is able to make itfor tomorrows event.

Our next family day will be early in April before the East-er break. The tentative date is on the 4th. I will, however, keep you posted next weefor the exact time. We will be decorating Easter Eggs together at the school.

If you have any suggestions for Family day, feel free to offer your ideas. Id be happto hear from you!

    Family Day

Group Show & TellStarting this month we will be having a Group Show and Share day, where eachchild will bring something from home. The theme of this Group Show and Share wbe something green around their home. The object they bring can be anything fra toy, to something found in the yard or garage. The more unique the object is, themore interesting it becomes. A student once brought a motherboard from an old ltop. Before they come to school with their object, I ask that you discuss it with yochild. Their job on this day will be to tell the following three things about it:

    1. What is it used for/ what does it do?2. Where did you find it?3. How does it feel, smell, taste, or does it make anysounds?

Another interesting part of this Show and Share willinclude the option to use a microphone. Becausewe are practicing on projecting our voices and be-ing audible, the pre-ks will have the option to speakinto the microphone during their sharing time. Ifthey are not ready for that, and choose not tothatis fine as well. Through this project your child willbe building confidence and working on their lan-

    guage skills.
